Well, I don't watch the show, but hey - here's me and Willie, just hanging at the street corner right by the Austin City Limits entrance  :)

I dunno where you're at, but I'm in Huntington and have WV and KY PBS. One or the other one has an afternoon of live music along the lines of Mountain Stage. I think it's Saturday, and more early than late. I also recall seeing episodes of performances from a cave, IIRC it was recorded in the Renfro Valley area (I-75, KY/TN). I gladly pay taxes because it helps fund PBS. Well, maybe not gladly but that's not PBS's fault.

I DVR it. ACL has introduced me to so many great artists over the years that I may have never been exposed to otherwise.

ACL, it's the best. But apparently it is no more. Haven't seen a new one in ages...

I agree. The 2 shows after it are good too.

I can understand how some people could be turned off by the wide range of artists and styles. But I will say I like getting exposed to new stuff. And I feel like the ACL artists are much more carefully selected than those in other pop culture platforms.

There was a piece about ACL recently on 60 minutes. The producer has been there since the very inception of the show. He said it was a conscious decision to branch out to new genres. They didn’t want to get stale, and wanted to break out of the “country music” branding.

I don’t like all the new acts either. But that’s ok. Whenever you are hearing new music, it’s inevitable you’re not going to like some of it. Mostly I am just happy there is any show at all on tv where good musicians can actually perform.

    I want to clarify this...

I don’t not watch it as much now because ACL chAnged

I have changed and am doing different things with my life...and my PBS affiliate moves the ACL time frequently

When I do catch it, it is generally enjoyable

I watch it sometimes. It's pretty mainstream commercial and the acts have an Ed Sullivan, "canned" feel to them. Still, there's not much else on there, though DirecTV has "Audience Music" which is virtually always crap but sometimes they'll get a creative act by mistake. I think people have gravitated to YouTube and other distribution, cherry picking what they already like rather than exploring new stuff.

I have better luck with you tube than ACL. I use to watch ACL all the time. I am still discovering new music at 63 but not from TV shows.

Because I cancelled my TV cable over 6 years ago & the ever changing musical landscape, I rarely see this one time staple...it was a mandatory weekly habit, once upon a time
