Assigning an external switch to a boss gx10

I’m slowly getting used to this amazing piece of equipment.

Is there somewhere - YouTube video, or a really clear step by step where I can learn how to assign, not just the built in pedals but an external one like a Boss FS5?

Also a secondary question - is there somwehere - again YouTube or a really clear step by step. where I can learn how to use the compressors properly?

I have the manual but I’m not getting it. I’ve asked YouTube but get close but not quite.
