All right folks, I have the first production Vox Pathfinder 15 SMR. Its the 15 watt head with 2x10” cabinet. Literally S/N 00001! It is quite possibly one of the rarest pieces of gear on the planet. Only 750 were made.

I am considering selling or trading it, and only because I feel like a collector would appreciate it more, and I am looking to get an american made Taylor, or building up my pedal collection.

If you were in my shoes, would you hang on to it, or let it go? I also own a couple of pathfinder 15’s (one is like brand new!), an AC10, a peavey Bandit and a Fender Superchamp XD. I’m typically not the collector type, but I know how rare this is, so I’m torn!

I mean, I know they're up in value due to these crazy times, but how much could you possibly get for it? Like life-changing money?

If you don't need it to pay rent, you've got food on the table, bills are paid, yada yada...I'd hold onto it. Pretty nice piece, rare, and a good sounding amp with a cool story.

Honestly, I'd probably sell the AC10 first...unless it's vintage.

Uh I'm not good with vox, but I'd say maybe get rid of the ac 10 and save a little bit to buy a Taylor or pedals. As time goes by the price for it will escalate. That's my two cents, but it's your choice

Why did they make so few? Just wondering. I want to say if it’s truly that rare to hang onto it but I know how I am. If I’m not using something I don’t care how valuable it is I want it gone. I’ve tried being a collector of things before but I always feel like if something’s not being used it’s a waste. If you can use it to get something you’d really enjoy using then let it go. Just my opinion.

FWIW you might try Vox themselves to see if perhaps they might be interested in it? Otherwise, hmmm.... dunno. It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it I suppose. I think I'd just hang onto it if it were mine, unless Vox themselves was willing to give me some decent cash for it, for their collection etc.

Do you use it? On a regular basis? If it's just collecting dust, then find out its value and decide from there. I will say I tend to move on from gear I'm not using. Guitars and amps are tools, and they're not very useful to me if I never want to use them.

Think of all the people on this site & others expressing regret over something they sold years ago thinking they'd never miss it. Can you live with that kind of shadow over your life the rest of your days?

But you could always list it on ebay with a ridiculously high reserve to see what kind of bids you get. And if somebody meets that reserve - bingo.

Well wait - do they still do reserve prices on ebay? Been a long time...

There’s a funny thing about gear opinions on a forum. We ask about it, add pros and cons to get a consensus and after all that we feel like we’ve accomplished something so that colors our thinking. Why not start over: play the damn thing for an hour a day for a week. Record it and judge the sound. Decide based on that.

I think there are better avenues of investment than musical gear.

As it is serial number:000001, it has historical value to either Vox or a Vox collector for the only reason that it is the first production unit. As was mentioned previously, contact Vox to see if they would like to purchase it. If not, contact a Vox collector as someone would buy it just to say they have the 00001. I have no idea of the value of it.

I recently sold a Marshall 4104 JCM 800 83' white elephant tolex all original , there was amod but the guy who did it left the the original parts in place , the celestians were 3 days older the the amp ,
I found it as a door stop in a pawn shop for rediculous little coin, played for about 8 years then sold it for many times what I paid for it ( about 4.5 times ) and it sold in a week .
there are people who are into vintage gear, especially if its been cared for properly and you never know til you try.

Having said that, expect the buyer to know what they are getting and will be picky for the cash out lay.

I sold mine because I hadnt turned it on in a year ,that amp needed to be used not a museum piece.
