Yeah, earlier tonight I tried really hard to get to a point that someone was making...but I'm not at work--I don't get paid for this. I clicked past the post when I realized we weren't getting any breaks in the subject matter. I can't take "wall of text" seriously when there isn't any money involved.

As an English Professional, I must point out that the OP did not use this construction correctly, which makes me wonder if this whole thing was just an elaborate trap.

Noted. Thank you. I did ponder to not make the correction due to the nature of this thread, but the hidden grammar police within, got the best of me.

One principle I often use, is to use language and grammar that fits with what others are using in a similar context. Academic writing goes for clarity and adopting the conventions of formal writing.

Forum writing is also concerned with the conventions of the group, so that you seem to speak the same language as the others.

As someone who has walked into a closet exiting a room full of bosses, I'm really not all that concerned with what anyone on the internet thinks of my writing.

I'm tempted to make corrections now and then, but

    A. you're not my students
    B. I'm retired, anyway
    and
    C. somebody else would doubtless correct me (not to say I wouldn't have it coming).
