Wait... there's a non-neck pup to solo with??? Teach me your ways Sensei.
IMHO, KISS is all about the show. Kinda like Poison used to say, "We're not musicians, we're rock stars!" KISS are circus entertainers who are also proficient musicians. The music takes a back seat to the live show, and that's by design, in my view.
Dave Mathews' music doesn't really blow my hair either, but any time I see their Austin City Limits or other performances on TV I stop and watch. They are fantastic musicians all around!
I have heard some excellent live Dead from the 70's, but it's so hit or miss. You can't just randomly pick a show and trust that it will be good music.
My answer was the same, but with no attempt to explain. I simply don't get what people like about them or what made them any better than any other mediocre band from the 60's. I have a good friend who idolizes Jim Morrison and I see nothing appealing about the man as a musician (edit = or otherwise).
The Smiths. Or, rather, anything where Morrissey is singing.
Indifference can easily turn to hate. A song that may seem anodyne at first listen can become anathema when you hear it hundreds or thousands of times against your will.
Dave matthews, u2.
Honestly I never got phish til I saw them live, was impressed so I dug into the live catalog
Morrissey is insufferable. But Johnny Marr is one of the under appreciated great guitar players.
there are so many that i d be here a week listing them all.....
I want to thank all you folks who didn't get the Grateful Dead!
I still think its funny!
Most of the hate is like the kid in school who doesn't get the joke while the rest of us are rolling on the floor in laughter! They get all up tight and have to claim it's just not a funny joke as they would get it if it was!
"The jokes not funny; you're not funny; I'm leaving!"
not really bands but
the prog rock thing
the guitar virtuoso thing
new southern rock deal
the dead (considering my brother is a dead head)
any metal off shoot genre like death metal...doom metal
So many, but that's why there is variety out there! Some of y'all would hate all my faves, too.
In general tI think rock and country do best when the musical interludes serve a song, instead of the song being a shell vehicle for long musical interludes.
I've heard that. I just cannot take the caterwauling long enough to hear it for myself.
There are a bunch but I’d probably end up offending people who love those bands
Stones, Mick and Keith wrote some good songs, but I’d rather here anyone else’s versions, don’t know what people hear in Keith’s playing or Mick’s singing.
(disclosure: I think Morrissey's lyrics and vocals are great ... though his politics are abhorrent)
I’ll leave the Dead, Rush, Boston and several others out, as they’ve been sufficiently mentioned.
A good portion of The Eagles
