Oh boy, a hate thread, now I can vent my spleen.

I never got Bruce Springsteen, Steely Dan, the Buckingham-Nicks version of Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, or Prince. I've got no use for any of them, even though they're all supremely talented.

Haven't heard of them. Do they rock?

I was just hoping there would be love &/or hate shown for The Shaggs. And you did not let me down!

I think Grateful Dead music is fine, and some are earworms for me. I think the objection is more along the lines of "we don't get why so many other people get them so absurdly deeply."

    Thank you.

I’m accepting this “Quote of the Day” award on behalf of the little people...Billy Barty, Herve Villechaize, Sneezy, Dopey, Doc, and Paul Williams.

(*But not Sleepy...I think that little jerk is up to somethin’!)

I could go on and on, but these acts are devoid of any musical value whatsoever.

Rush -- Yah, brilliant musicians, but OMG, appreciating them always seemed like so much WORK. I never had the attention span. Plus, as revealed in perhaps the greatest interview in the history of music journalism, they have zero sense of humor.

Dave Matthews, Phish, Dead, other jammy jam jam twirlyhippie lysergic noodliness -- Not my tribe.

OTOH, re Kiss, my views are well known. Even apart from the music -- which, come on, there's some pretty excellent rock & roll on their first three or five albums-- if you were a certain kind of 12-year-old dork in 1976, they were a huge subversive superhuman force you could glom onto and feel like it was ok to be as weird as you were. They were essential. As I've said before, I started playing guitar because I wanted to be a seven-foot-tall fire-breathing sex monster when I grew up. That hasn't changed, actually.

And IMHO if you can't find something to like among the bazillions of subgenres that hip-hop and metal each encompass, you haven't really tried. It's like saying you don't like things that are green.

Not “getting” is more akin to indifference than hate. It’s never bothering to care or explore. I never had any interest in the Dead or Mathews. It doesn’t move needle vs “fingernails on a chalk board”.

There was already a Jimi Hendrix. Did we really need another one?

    Alright, I can’t keep quiet...

For the Dave Matthews haters, IF you ever want to check out a Dave Matthews album, check out Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College.

    The guitars sound amazing.

I get why people (especially guitarists) get into SRV, but to me it's the same reason people (especially guitarists) get into Yngwie Malmsteen; the musicianship, not necessarily the songs. I have a Malmsteen playlist on Spotify, and if the guitar playing wasn't so amazing the songs would be boring. In the case of SRV, I find the songs boring and the playing (to my subjective ears of course) does not push through that threshold to make me want to listen to them. That's just me though and I'm probably in the minority which is fine.

On the subject of "hair rock", I get why it was so popular - I listened to it as well. But there are guys my age in neighboring WV who still go bonkers when Kix is playing at a bar someplace...
