Well, I've made my move to Austin. Took 2 days to drive from Iowa. It feels good to be back in Texas (lived in Dallas last year). My brother is moving down here in a few weeks to live with me.

I have this weekend to settle in and get re-acquainted with the city (haven't driven much here, just rode with someone else before).

Starting Monday its time to get me some money. I have 4 job interviews scheduled for Monday and Tuesday.

Tonight I'm going to get a big ass margarita once I finish unpacking. :D

If you go downtown to the entertainment area for your margarita, don't drink and drive. The PD is brutally efficient.

Thanks for the heads up. I plan on only having one and then spending a lot of time walking around....I suppose I will take the bus then.

But knowing me, I'll probably pick up some super hot undergrad and she'll drag me to her place for the night. ;)

    Welcome to Austin

Yark14 - I see you are on-line and not out doggin' the co-eds. Resting up for the interviews tomorrow I assume. Good luck on those interviews.

I was over on the Jalopy Journal website and saw a post that you need to check out. It contains a comprehensive list of Restaurants and Eateries in and around Austin.

I have lived here for over 20 years and I've been to most if not all of these and I'm going to change that soon. Several places really sound like I've been missing something and I don't want that to continue.

If I were you, I'd start with Home Slice and forget the more expensive steakhouses until that first paycheck comes in.

    Here is the link http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=643102

Thanks for the link Lost-N-Austin! Lots of great places to check out. No, I'm not out and about tonight. Went out last night and had a blast. Hopped from bar to bar checking out the music. Met some really friendly people and had some good conversations.

Walked off my hangover early this afternoon by exploring SoCo. Lots of neat stuff/people.

Resting up tonight for the interviews tomorrow.

i don't like the weather, but i do like the town.

but i'm one of the only new englanders i know that doesn't seem to get seasonal depression during the winter, so that might have something to do with it.

go to lovejoys and drink their wit. it's one of the best beers i've had in texas.

Austin sure has changed. I remember when the only reason people wanted to make the trek to Austin was so they could light up a joint.

I hit up the Home Slice between job interviews. Amazing pizza. 2 slices for $6 and I was a stuffed, happy camper.

I've decided I need a fedora, or a similar hat. Seems like everyone has one here....

Isn't Mandy Marie in Austin? Or am I mistaken?

Aren't there some other TPD'er's in Austin?

Wish you luck on your job search. And I hope you get the time/money/opportunity to check out the local music scene and report back to us?

+1 to buying a fedora. I just got one last month and I think it's awesome. Plus it gives you some cred when you play some jazz or the blues
