Always loved this one
She just sits there and waits.... and then drops the bomb "you're no good"...
If you haven’t seen it, watch the documentary Muscle Shoals. During it they tell the story of this session.
I was late to the Aretha party.
I got indoctrinated when I played in a Motown/R&B/Soul wedding band a few years ago.
We (Hot Wax) did about 20 Aretha songs.
What a powerhouse she was!
From the overlooked album Spirit in the Dark...she could play the piano too.
Google Aretha at the Kennedy Center Honors.
She brought a President to tears.
I love all her Atlantic records recordings.
There was only one Aretha and she was the Queen Of Soul.
IF you have never seen this, you need to watch. This is how you "bring the house down".
I always loved this one, Clapton does a great job too.
Saying "Aretha could play the piano too" may well be the understatement of the century. It's -almost- possible she's a better piano player than a singer, but, no. Almost, though, and that's saying something.
I'm not looking forward to being stranded on a desert island, but a copy of Spirit In The Dark would go a long way towards making it OK. Definitely NOT overlooked in this house!
Yeah, I was being understated. Nice to meet another Aretha aficionado.
I think this is one of her best.
Jazz, R&B, soul, it's got them all...
even some serious flute fills!
I Think Aretha was incredible!
One of my favorite LP covers
My favorite singer
My favourite female singer of all time - and thats saying something!!
2018 film Amazing Grace is essential - Sydney Pollack directed documentary of her 1972 Church concert. Only recently released as I think the original sound and visual recordings were out of sync. Took modern technological developments to sort it out so it was only seen for the first time 2 years ago.
Everyone who posted on this thread should have the delight of seeing it if you can.
This is a great collection Remastered MONO...and I 2nd the emotion on the Muscle Shoals documentary.
I can’t tell you how long I tried to figure out that AMAZING Chain of Fools tone by Joe South...
