About five minutes ago, it suddenly occurred to me that I'd never tried reversing Hendrix's backwards solo on the track "Are You Experienced?" For at least 20 years, it's been a really easy thing to do with a computer and audio software, but I never got around to it, probably because, as I'm recalling now, Hendrix's recordings were in very limited supply on YouTube a few years back (I haven't owned any of his recordings for a long time). Anyway, I did it in a matter of minutes and thought about uploading the audio to my website to post about it here, and then I noticed this YouTube video. Pretty nice solo, no matter which way you experience it.

I have Bold as love note for note DVD that A. Aledort did and he spends a lot of time on the backwards solos. He mentions how impressed Eddie Kramer was with how effortlessly Jimi could track those.

I sure do admire the playing of Jimi Hendrix backwards or forwards.

I did this same years back when SoundForge first came out. It was eye-opening.

I've done the same with other tunes, such as Frank Zappa's tune Ya Hozna, which has backward vocals on the track. I discovered he used some of Moon's vocals from his tune Valley Girl, as well as bits from other tunes of his.

Forward with backward vocals:

It kind of sounds awesome to have the rhythm section backwards in that clip.

Am I the only one who thought Jimmy Page was playing this reversed? One of my favorite riffs once I figured it out:
