my opinion varies, depending on the kind of gig i just played, my BAC, and my attitude/relationship with my bandmates...

I'm a person with a hobby. I'm not very musical and I don't entertain well.

    Probably musician.

It depends on what role you play within the band. Since I'm the frontman, I think my progress as an entertainer is much more important to the bands success than my progress as a musician. But it's still mentally and artistically satisfying to learn a new lick!

Both. You can be the most seriously studious musician in the world, but if you ain't entertaining, then??????? Most people go out and see a band to be entertained, not dazzled by your musical prowess-sad but true!

I am a musician who hopes that people will find what I make entertaining enough to support me. Entertainment is not my goal, but an acceptable (and maybe even necessary) by product of making music.

I'm an entertainer if you're a kid, a musician if you're a doctor, and an artist if you wake me up early.

An online dictionary defines a musician as "one who composes, conducts or performs music, especially instrumental music" and an entertainer as basically "one who entertains others, especially professionally - a popular singer, dancer, comedian etc."

I shudder to think that with my introverted nature that I could be an entertainer but I guess I may lay claim to being a musician because I do perform instrumental music. I still cringe a bit at the thought of calling myself a musician. I have always thought that a musician would display skills beyond my ability, be able to read music etc. and play a concert instrument in an orchestra, but it is nice to consider that I too could be sees as a musician.

Musician primarily, but I do try and keep an audience entertained with performance, song choice and delivery.

Some guys I work with as a sideman are GREAT entertainers, can get a crowd going and keep them singing and dancing the whole night, without needing to be high level musicians. I respect that too, as its a skill unto itself...

Well the more I play out as a musician, I have discovered being an entertainer is what the evening is all about.

Another skill to learn - working on it!

I still have much work to do to become the "entertainer," but I gain experience with each new gig, & the compliments we're getting are on the rise.

Most of the time a musician but when I get to the gig entertainer and beer salesman. It's sad but that's what happens. In my mind I'd like to think people show up for the music but I'm not that naive anymore. Beer and the ladies. Or maybe just beer........

I play covers to entertain people. I'm a musician second. At least that's what it feels like. Not complaining, entertainer pays better than musician. :D

if you do your playing on the stage you are an entertainer.

if you do your playing under it in the pit you are a musician.

understanding the difference means making money or not so much.

I try to entertain by making music...
And as a consumer, I'd always prefer listening to an entertainer (who's also a great musician) rather than to a musician (who don't knows how to entertain)...
