It’s characteristically weird, folks. Listen to these weird drums!

Followed by a track that sounds like 80s Beach Boys. I’m into it. I like it when someone releases a self titled album late in their career. It’s a statement.

Characteristically weird is right. Did not like that cut. Barely got half way through. Sounds like teenybopper stuff. He can do so much better.

I like this song. He borrows from "go your own way" on his solo.

And me who thought it was some other new kid on the block that had some "DNA" of Lindsey Buckingham. Actually, believe it or not, his 2 solo albums, he made, while in Mac, impresses me a lot more than anything he did while in Mac. Yes, heresy, curse in the church...

ok, about this stuff. It sounds a lot like Steven Wilsons later stuff, och which I don't care for at all. But Porcupine Tree, yes yes and yes.

It is a little strange, I would never buy it but the solo at 1:50 is pretty cool.

I like this much better than if he had gone in a Hip Hop direction. ;)

This is better than the first post.
Besides, I really liked him in The Day The Earth Stood Still. ;)

Thanks for pointing that out, I had bailed before then. Interesting solo for sure and that alternate/tremolo picking requires a fair bit of skill to play cleanly.

Those muppet-like backing vocals kinda grated on me tho.

I remember reading after his recent medical run in (think it was open heart surgery?) that there was an issue with the way that he was intubated that might prevent him from ever singing again. I was surprised to see this album following that news. It sounds like he’s struggling in those live clips and that could be why?

I actually enjoyed the album cuts that I’ve had time to listen to so far.

    Like Tom Petty,

LB admires the Beach Boys, pouring over volumes of studio takes, and talking to those involved, including some members of The Beach Boys.

The fact that he HAS done much better may not mean he can STILL do much better.

Holy caw that is grating, irritating. Electronica is not the way.

Are those background vocals piped in? Sounds like too many voices.

The album predates both the Fleetwood Mac debacle and his heart surgery it's been in the can for 3 years.

I should also note that this has to be one of the most expensive records to make in history.
This is the album he wanted to tour before Fleetwood Mac's big tour. According to his lawsuit he lost 15 million by not touring with FM.

Ah. Okay. Those performances don’t, though. When I say it sounds like he’s struggling, I’m speaking about the live clips.

The fact that it was recorded before the medical incident would certainly explain why he sounds in good voice on the recordings, though.

The song in the op sounds interesting for sure. I've never been a fan of LB, but I'd like to hear the new record. Who knows? I might like it. But I have no plans to buy it
