I'm the "winner" of (link removed). The caps that arrived don't look like the picture or like any Sprague caps I've seen before, but maybe I'm just too new at this. The caps are a pinkish orange, not a reddish orange. The plastic extends for about 1mm onto the legs, which are less than 1cm long. And the caps have text on the top edge (not on the face) that reads "22nK400VL". Are these really 0.022uF Sprague Orange Drops?

No, they are not. They're still probably just fine as tone caps, though. The reason I use orange drops is because they're very consistent, with an entire batch usually measuring +/- .001 uf from spec.

Can you measure the capacitance?

I'd still contact the seller and probably give him bad feedback since the item sent wasn't the item he described or pictured.

What are the numbers on the caps? Sprague caps will have numbers like Omiewise65's pics.

The one Omiwise65 posted decodes like this:

715P is the series (there are several types of Sprague Orange Drop caps - could also be 225P)
200V is the voltage rating (200 Volts)
473J is the value (.047uF)
0825 is the date code (25th week of 2008)

You'll see those markings in your ebay seller's pic in the auction, too.

I agree with the negative feedback especially after looking at the ad.

Off topic but it seems that the number of e-bay and craigslist ads that misrepresent the product or condition is on the rise. Makes the legit sellers look bad.

At least they appear to be a decent cap. Polyester film based makes it a match with the 225 series OD's.
In any event I'd ***** at the seller as the auction is not as described. You can't say your going to deliver a specific product and then slip in a disclaimer that says or something like it.

To the seller's credit, they quickly acknowledged their mistake and issued a full refund. They didn't even want me to return the caps, so it looks like I ended up with a couple of free caps. Merry Christmas to me.

Just wanted to share this info. If anyone is looking for capacitors from a reliable supplier check out Luxe Radio and Musical Instrument Co. in Los Angeles. My local guitar tech suggested them when re-wiring my Tele. I went with there 1969-1974 capacitor set and could not be happier. They can be found on E-Bay. Excellent service, shipped from LA to Ohio in about 3 days. They come packaged in a really cool box that looks like a tweed Fender case and great wiring directions, full color with pictures. Cannot recommend them highly enough
