I'm getting back to recording on a different computer, and I thought of trying a trial of Cubase. I've never used it.
Are there any lovers or haters of it here?
Thank you.

It’s been around for decades, so it has that going for it. At one time the big players were Steinberg’s Cubase and Emagic’s Logic Audio (before Apple purchased them in 2002).

Cubase has had a pretty devoted following, more so in Europe it seems. It’s been a solid choice for ages. I had a friend in a very successful band from Norway who did everything in Cubase.

I was faced with a decision in the late 90s between Cubase and Logic Audio and unwisely chose Logic Audio. Unwise not because of the software (both were superb platforms) but because Emagic was bought by Apple who didn’t treat PC users fairly (in my humble opinion) and I was dropped as a customer.

Had I chosen Cubase, I’d very likely still be a devotee.

I can’t compare with others as this was my first and only entry to DAWs (others were Demos), but almost a year later after purchasing, the LE ELEMENTS (80€) is serving me very well.

I used Cubase for a few years with some success and then for reasons unknown it refused to listen to my little Peavey USB mixer and I switched to Reaper and have been on it for close to 15 years.

Now put three albums out and well into the fourth.

Sorry, not much help but that was my experience

Been using it since 2004 or so when the LE version came free with the soundcard that I bought. I upgraded over the years and now have the Pro version 11, thinking that I might move to the latest version (14) sometime soon. I've stuck with it over the years as I got used to the workflows and shortcuts etc. I tried Reaper a little while ago but didn't find it as easy to use - probably because I was so used to Cubase...

All my recorded stuff here has been made using Cubase, albeit with some added VST instruments and effects

I have been using Cubase since the late 90s. Back then it was with a large soundblaster soundcard and Windows 95/97 lots of CPU glitching when using multiple channels
These days, I use Cubase 10. I got free couple of years back. Used along with a focusrite and a decent pc powerful cpu no issues or glitching
Mostly, only use it for the guitar rig pro plugin, to create amps.

Nuendo/Cubase user since version 3 after I dumped Digidesigns ProTools when they were aquired by Avid. Now on version 13.

Not sure if your just kicking the tires or have a question on an existing installation. Cubase is a very rich environment that allows for a lot of customization of the user interface and workflows.

Tire kicking. I use an older version of Presonus Studio One, which works well, but I have been off for a while. there have been computer (and other) changes, and now I'm heading back at it. I think that I will demo Mixcraft, Cubase, and maybe Ableton, although I mostly do vocal recording and fill it in after that, a la Elton John, Gordon Lightfoot, some tasty classic-rock style....... Ableton gets luke-warm reviews for vocals, but demos are free, except for time. After spending some $$$, I may end up back at old Presonus.

I wonder if any Cubase lightish is still available that way. It is now owned by Yamaha.

My best advice is pick a DAW and stick with it. Cubase is as good a choice as any. There's lots of great tutorials on YouTube, making it easier to learn now than ever.

Been using Cubase for over 20 years. My favorite recording software. Tried Pro Tools, Logic, Cakewalk/Sonar and others but always come back to Cubase. Currently on v13 Pro…

I've been on Nuendo since about 2003. My company went with two stations of Digidesign in the '90s. A year later they were bought by Avid and announced that you had to re-buy both software and hardware to continue. That was going to be $140,000, and Digidesign had been quite unimpressive at that point. Meanwhile, Fairlight was the most stable digital transport on the market so we bought it. Four years later Fairlight bankrupted.

When we looked around again, Protools had not worked out the mixing latency problem. Mixes done in the box would fold up towards mono as you added channels and would sound different on different installations. Everyone was mixing by running their multiple tracks out to a large console. Our problem was that we were one of the first adopters of non-linear who had multiple rooms we wanted to mix in and that would mean that re-visiting a product would require a whole new console setup.

Nuendo (and Cubase) had been built from the ground-up with the individual channel latency issue resolved As a result, you could mix in the box from the get-go. We've been able to freely pass projects between rooms from the start. They also had a far more robust video integration platform. We went with Nuendo and have been a seven-station Nuendo/Cubase house ever since. That's twenty-two years.

I use cubase 14 pro since the day it came out, have been a user since the SX days, I love it, use it every day as a mix engineer, on my mac pro.

I found with version 14 there are many really good updates and features I already could not live without, they are mostly improvements in workflow with editing audio, and also modulators, which are a huge game changer, I can do things now I would have dreamed of being able to do years ago, they have added in some pro tools like features as well, the audio align function and also elastique pro are far superior to what is available in pro tools, and you get to own it forever once you've paid the upgrade fee.

I have been using since about 2020 when I started to migrate from Reaper. I like the MIDI capabilities of Cubase and it suits me because I play all my own instruments and it's a great DAW for a solitary composer/performer.
