Could I easily install humbuckers in an affinity tele by Squier?

    I should clarify....

If you check out eBay and the like, you see some older affinity top loader bodies had just a single coil neck rout.

The new string through Affinities are humbucker neck rout.

Here's a photo of one from one thread:

    Here's one from another thread:

The one on the bottom has a string through bridge, the one at the top has a top loader bridge. Not completely sure about what's under the bridge plate of the second, I found another picture of an alleged Affinity, but it was apparently mislabeled.

There's always SD Hot rails. You can pretend you're Dave Murray or Janick Gers (maybe older Adrian Smith.)

    LOL :)

Just looking at eBay gives an answer to this... "it might"... there's no apparent link to year or colour.

With the newer ones you can't say, but I think the much older ones have that square with a small triangle at the top of it in the bridge position. Not sure it will fit a humbucker exactly, it might need some minimal work like a little bit of drilling for the screws. Or not.

edit: actually check out the new one in this thread:

The neck position on my Affinity butterscotch blonde was not. I had to chisel the opening larger to fit a P90 in it.

It was made in China. Made a bunch of other mods to it as well (obviously).

    P90.... Oooh....

That's one of the now "older" ones without the black plug in the headstock.

    What year is it?

How did you do the wiring for the P90, anything fancy?

    Thank you.

Yours is one of the last top loaders out of Indonesia, apparently, before the move to China.

The other one posted is interesting. The owner said it was made in China but has Indonesian features.

Serial numbers help try to figure out what Squier was doing.

Ive seen these are current colours both with single coil and both with humbucker routing on eBay... but I've seen race red, the orange one, and the previous gun metal grays (2013-2016) with both routings too... I have no experience with pré 2013 Squier Affinity tele routings.

If you want a humbucker at the bridge you'll have to take your router out of the shed too... ;-)

It looks like the humbucker routing is combined with (I hope) conductive paint in the neck and control routing.
