Long story but I put a Minibucker in the neck position of my Geo Benson Ibanez to get rid of the HB mud. It sounds great! However, then I wanted to go to a 250k volume pot to tame the highs a bit.. I have a ton of new and used pots around. So I got it apart and lo and behold a normal Fender style CTS doesn't have long enough thread section. So I find a smooth old mini pot that will work. It's a real ***** installing these things in archtops. I get it installed and it sounds great dimed .... BUT... the pot is defective. It's nearly no sound at all from 1-8 and nearly full volume 8-10. Crap.
I can't find a good longer shaft 250k anywhere, everyone has them in 500k for LP's etc. , but not 250k.

and now I get to take the archtop apart again! OK, Rant over...

Cats are generally more interested in guitar cases than guitars.

Here's the solution I "bricoled" for my Gretsch G100 Synchromatic RI, preserving both options : acoustic and electric...

They are a bear for pots and switches!
A thin wire jammed into split shaft pot works well as a fish. Saves a bit of trouble.

Thanks for that! I should have been more specific. Yeah I can find those. I dont need those real long ones but may just do that. It seems "non Fender" CTS come in 3/8" thread length, the Fender are 1/4" thread length. I'm hoping 3/8 will work but need to check it out.

And that is why I only want an archtop with an access plate...no more f-hole surgeries for me as once was more than enough.

Perhaps that's why the cat likes to sleep in the archtop case o_O

that's why god invented hacksaws, you can shorten a long pot a lot easier than tryin to stretch them..

Can't you just space off the long shaft from underneath with some washers?

My avatar guitar has a 3-way switch(on/off/on) for a small varitone circuit. .033 cap on one side, .022 on the other and middle is no Tone. 500k pots

Last time I worked on that guitar I was seriously thinking about cutting an access hole in the back.

You'll want to be specific with that new pot. The type you don't like is an audio taper pot. It wasn't defective. It was performing as it should.

You want a linear taper pot. It has a more consistent roll off from 10-0.

What a project! It was a bit surprising (for me) that your GB had a muddy sounding OEM pickup.

Hope you can enjoy the mini w/ a new pot, soon!
