Sweet! I have the Guitar Player Magazine with Rik on the cover signed by him, I think it's from 1985.

This guy is incredible IMHO...

(link removed)

His live show is fabulous...really gets a crowd going. He's blues with a more R&B flavour. Every time I see him he's using a different guitar, but usually straight into the amp and he picks with his fingers Albert Collins style. He's got an old soul...

Big +1 on Garrett. I finally saw him live last year. Great show with a unique technique and sound all his own. The is a special on him that airs from time to time on Bravo here in Canada if youever get a chance to catch it.

For those not familiar with the pedigree his father Dutch Mason is a legend up here and they have a huge yearly bluesfest in Truro that usually brings in some great talent. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Hubert Sumlin, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Robben Ford, Sonny Landreth, Johnny Winter and many others have played at it.

I have to put in a word for my friend and guitar mentor, Paul Pigat of Cousin Harley. He's the most versatile and talented guitarist I've seen. Of course, I'm biased as we share a love of Olde Tyme music! Here are some videos. His site is paulpigat.com, but YouTube (and the Gretsch Pages) is filled with folks singing his praises.

Oh, and I second Paul Iverson as the best (and nicest) tech/luthier on the West Coast.

Brit Fader for amps - Dartmouth, NS
Ken Newfield guitar tech - Toronto, ON

Ken, is one of the best techs in Canada. I send my guitars from Nova Scotia to him! Costly but worth it.

I haven't seen Linda Manzer's name pop up yet. She's an amazing luthier, and has a serious reputation with artists in Canada.

Check out this list of musicians, probably more familiar to Canadians, except for names like Methany and Santana:

I know Emperor Joseph II said, "too many notes, my dear Mozart", but I have to join in ad say some Manzer guitars have too many strings.

A fellow by the name of Mario Proulx builds some very nice acoustic guitars.

When I take it out of the house and people ask me what kind it is, I say "It's a Smith" because most people can't pronounce "Proulx." ;)

Mario likes to take pictures of his process just like me.

 Since it's a French name, you know the l and the x are silent -- not hard to pronounce at all. Now Gaelic names, on the other hand!

Proulx is actually a fairly common name. E Annie Proulx, for example, wrote Broke Back Mountain.

+1 on Dave McLean of Winnipeg. Garnet Gillies - I took him a Mesa .22 and he didn't like that they kept their schematics secret. When I had trouble with a '65 re-issue Twin he recommended taking it to L&M 'cause they see them all the time. When I had an issue with a Sunn head he grabbed it, fixed it, biased it, and sold me a 15" speaker for an empty cab I had. In my Groove Tubes book of schematics I keep the Globe & Mail obit on Gar. Ah, Winnipeg, not a great place to visit but a great place to live. A shout out to Brent Parkin.

My Canadian guitar was made in the aforementioned Oxnard, CA, not far from where I live. A P-09.

I like Leslie Feist.

I saw Queen Elizabeth in Canada.

Another time in Canada I drank a lot of Brador the whole visit.
