Anyone using an Allen Sweet Spot?

This is an amp I've always been interested in based on it's specs.

Just missed out on a used one, which would have been a great way to try it out. I know there are a lot tweaked F style boutique clones out there (I've played several) but it seems like the Sweet Spot has been pretty revered over the years.

Anyone using one?

I have their smallest amp, the Classic 10, and it’s great. If I ever have the chance to pick up another used Allen, I will do it.

I've got one. I bought it from a guy in Florida who put it together from one of Allen's kits; he did a great job. It's a bigger cabinet than the standard Princeton size, but has a 10" in it. It sounds great (it basically knocked my old Tone King Imperial out of being my local gigging amp - back when there was local gigging, that is...))

Mine came in kit form 11 years ago. It's been bulletproof. Top quality components, oversize transformers that will run 6L6 or 6V6 power tubes.

I ordered mine with an Emi Li'l Texas and it sounds very good to me. I'm running JJ 6V6 power tubes and new production Tung Sol 12AX7 preamp tubes' and a JAN Philips 12AT7 reverb driver.

Highly recommended.

is a 9 month old thread considered zombie? hope not...

i'm interested in these amps too. is the current sweet spot on Allens website the same as in years past? its advertised as AB push pull 18/25watts (depending on which power tubes you run 6v6 or 6L6) and what's the push/pull do exactly ?

is it me or is that an expensive kit?

Allen's kits include cabinets and speakers unless you choose chassis only.

I assembling a Chihuahua and it's a busy little amp. A switch to adjust the amp for 6V6 or 6L6 power tube and he's added a footswitch for the RAW feature.

I'll let you know how I like it when I'm done.

There is no one better at delivering the great classic Fender sounds and more than David Allen. I recently purchased a Chihuahua for use in my apartment. I ordered it with an 8” speaker and I love it. I can run it on a single 6L6 and 10 watts if I want to. Right now the amp is running at 5 watts and a 6V6. The Allen Sweet Spot is a great amp. Good luck with your search to acquire one.

from what I understand he works with clients and will do custom builds so I don't think a reverb added is out of the question, I think he also had made them in the past.
so that's the built amp prices? i thought it was for the kit.

6G2 ChocoPrince combo 15 or 25 watt $1139 JJ tube set, Mather 1×10 or 1×12 cab, no speaker

i wonder why the Allen Sweet Spot is 18 watts opposed to the Fender Princeton Reverb being 12 watts.

May have something to do with the transformers being used ....? From reading Allen's site seems as tho most of the amps can do 2 different wattages depending on the tube set used

I’ve had a sweet spot for couple years, I am no pro at guitar just a guy that loves to play and listen.....but a couple weeks ago at a jam session with some great players, I was sitting beside a real player and great dude.
He was playing anES335 thru a vintage 60s Vibrolux reverb, A real beauty of an amp and his sound was great.....but he asked to take my sweet spot for a ride and wow..... I truly believed the Allen amp trumped his classic Vibrolux.
I didn’t say so to him, but I know he was mighty impressed too.

Built an Allen Sweet Spot kit 8 years ago. Have nothing but great things to say about it, and get compliments on the sound from other amp nerds. David Allen has also been easy to communicate with and forthcoming about the reasons for various design choices when I have spoken with him. You might try calling him if you have questions. My sweet spot has 6V6s and 12" red white and blues.

i like the RWB. i won't be building one, i don't really have the skill for that. hoping in can find one 2nd hand but may opt for an Allen built one if i get impatient.

I am interested in the Allen Hot Fudge (and do beleive I have a Chihuahu I bought 2nd hand locally), I do notice his prices just went up another 100 bucks just in the last couple days, (the inflation we are getting everywhere?). With that in mnd I'm almost wanting to jump now before prices get worse....?? Or a mojotone 5F11 and save a few
