I've been thinking of paring down my rig and just going...

Tuner > Overdrive > Delay > Tremolo

And the reason I need a drive box is because I play a one channel amp. For all the one-overdrive guys and gals...Anyone use an OCD as their only dirt pedal? If not, what do you use that covers rhythm and lead parts?

An OCD is my only dirt pedal now. I use a boogie which has its own fluid lead channel but I use the the OCD only with the clean channel.

I also have an MXR microamp. Stacked it's like having a three channel amp. Clean (nothing) Crunch (OCD on its low gain), Singing Lead (OCD boosted hard by MXR boost before it). I can also dirty up the clean channel with the MXR.

Simple, sounds great.

I love the OCD but it just doesn't have quite enough "juice" for me by itself. I use it as a lowish gain pedal and stack it into my Ramble FX Marvel drive. It's a GREAT combination.

I honestly could and often do. If it weren't for the fact I occasionally like a slightly warmer OD, and sometimes something a little higher gain, I could get away with just use the OCD. Gotta have those other flavors or things get a little boring for me, but the OCD is my desert island pedal for sure.

It's my main drive. I use it for most rock/blues type leads. I do usually have a tubescreamer of some sorts I use to boost for country type leads. I don't think I could handle just one unless we were not playing any country that night.

It's not my only dirt pedal, because I have two fuzz pedals, but it easily could be. I also have a Rat, mainly for nostalgic reasons. But if I had to pick just one I would go with the OCD.

I used to use an OCD but sold it because I felt the OD3 was just as good for my purposes. Like others I have also found that being able to stack a couple of boxes provides more options. Right now I have an SD1 going into OD3. Using the two boxes, my amp, and the volume knob on my guitar I can go from pure clean to searing leads and all points in between. I find it a little harder to get that range using just one dirt box-- unless I would be willing to bend over and adjust the gain knob on the pedal while on stage.

Perhaps if I constrained myself to a smaller range of gain structure-- not needing fully clean and not needing fully creamy/dirty-- then I could do it with just the one dirt pedal without needing to reach down and adjust anything. And/or it depends on the amp. With my Marshall JCM800 I can get a huge range of sound from almost pristine clean to Angus Young distortion with just the volume knob on my guitar. Then a dirt box/compressor/boost only comes into play for taking leads over the top. But going into an almost pristine clean Fender typically finds me gravitating towards two stacked boxes of one kind or another. Basically with a Marshall you already have one extra dirt box in the amp itself so one less is needed.

It's the only one I currently own, but I haven't used it in 2 or 3 years. I'm down to plugging straight into a 5E3 or low power tweed twin, turning the amp up and controlling distortion level with the guitar volume. That works well with my band. I remember the OCD as sounding really good with my Blues Deluxe on the clean channel though. It did everything I wanted it to - better to me than my old Keely modded tube screamer.

An OCD would be an excellent choice as the only overdrive pedal on your board. Like others have said, another boost pedal in tandem gives you some more tonal options, but you may not need it.

When I was playing in band situations and the sound was more or less predictable, I used the OCD by itself. Now that all my playing is in jam situations and I never know quite what's going to happen, I use a Bad Bob boost pedal in tandem so I can make it really scream when I need to, and I use a Tone Press compressor set up so it's mostly a clean volume boost when I just want louder and clean.

I have and sometimes still do. Depends on whether or not i want to haul my pedalboard. It has a Fat Boost3, old FD2, Xotic SL Drive and an EQD Hoof Reaper on it for dirt. But I often leave the board home and just take the OCD and my DR.Z Z28. IF I can crank the amp, like DIME IT, I need nothing but a cord, but its loud and I usually can't. The OCD gets me close to that tone at lower volumes. I prefer LP mode with drive and tone at noon

Rarely use an overdrive, just straight into a 67 Princeton Reverb. But when I do use overdrive it's a Keeley modded Boss BD-2.

Started years ago with a TS-9, then went to the BD-2, then the OCD, then a Soul Food, now back to the BD-2. They all sound good though, just a bit different.

Wow, that's the board right there. Everything you need, nothing you don't!

Thanks d-rock. My try of a minimum board. The OCD has so many different sounds in it. It is always exciting to play with it.

I have the knockoff version (Ultimate Drive) and if it sounds like the OCD it's cloned from, I can see how it could be a standalone pedal. I love it.

I use a Dirty Little Secret for crunching up an old Fender and a Rat (or two) for lead boost. I could probably get by with just the DLS if I wanted to.
