A few weeks ago I received an email from the “Wish” site. They offered all kinds of audio items for ridiculous prices. I decided to give it a try. I bought a Shure SM58 for about $26 including shipping from China. Got it today. Exactly like one I already have. Came with a little bag, stand clip and seems genuine. Anyone else buy from that site? What is the story behind “Wish”?

Can't say I've tried it, but my gut instinct is that if they're selling brand name audio for prices that seem too good to be true, they're selling "brand name" audio, i.e., counterfeits.

It sure looks and sounds real. Is it simply a good copy? It came with Shure manual.

Wish is a marketplace, same as dhgate, Aliexpress etc.

They do not sell directly, they do the same thing with 3rd party seller.

And I'm pretty sure IP Law is not the most developped Law branch in china.

Sometimes these mics have serial numbers. Maybe you could do a serial lookup?

Which you simply have to download and print.

It can come from the same factory. Differences between counterfeit and legit is not in quality, but in licence to use or build in such way that it would be protected by IP.

Chinese factory don't give a damn **** about licences and get to produce without autorization that's how you Can get good counterfeit (and as far as my memories goes, it was the case 20 years ago).

It happens with guitars as well.

Fake Jem - Mark goes through it pretty thorough.

I have not used it personally, but I have seen so many bad reviews lately about people receiving fakes/knockoffs and even some people receiving things like a photo of the product they allegedly ordered, I would not spend a penny of my money on that site.

At 98 bucks, direct from Sweetwater, no shipping costs, and a Sweetwater warranty, as well as Shure's warranty, why look anywhere else. You get what you pay for.

I looked over Wish's site over a year ago, and quickly exited. A pantload of Chinese crap. No thanks.
It takes it a month to get here from China, no.

If you want a good, budget friendly mic, find a Shure SM48. Not a PG48, but a SM48.
Last time I was in Guitar Center, they had a pile of them for around $50 each.
I have one that is something like 35 years old, and our bass player sings through it in our practice space still to this day. I had to replace the foam insert inside of the screen as it dry rotted and fell apart. Other than that, it's been rock solid, for 30 Years!

SM57s and 58s rarely go on sale at the big box music gear stores. And when they do, it's $10 off. It's been that way forever.

In other words, anything less than that from an overseas shop is counterfeit. Period. End of story.

Hate to break it to ya. But that's just how it is.

Unfortunately, this also means one should never buy a used SM57/8. Not worth the risk. Particularly when they are only $100 for a legit shure from a legit source. Industry standard for $100 is really not that bad of a deal.

Hit or miss from my experience, take caution buying expensive items off there.

I can't believe you think it may be real. Extremely cheap brand name goods on a Chinese website = so fake.

    Knockoffs are getting amazingly accurate.
A buddy with a recording studio bought some of those 58s for rehearsal studios.
He got the ones with an on/off switch and none of them worked.
    It was a quick fix.
He said the guts were very similar to genuine, but if you held one in each hand, the real one is slightly heavier.
    The knockoff thing is CRAZY.
There is a lot of it on Amazon.
My son is fascinated with it...he says there's a knockoff Ferrari factory somewhere in South America.
