Anyone have experience with automotive paint from TouchUpDirect?

I'm refinishing a Telecaster body. I've seen some nice non-metallic new car colors on the street lately. TouchUpDirect says it will match any paint color. The reviews aren't great but that may be because it's not always a perfectly exact match with someone's car - which wouldn't be an issue.

Has anyone ever used their paint, or have any thoughts? A 10 ounce spray can costs $37.00 - would that be enough paint for a Telecaster body?

I’ve used their basecoat/clearcoat only because the color I wanted wasn’t available from Duplicolor. It sprayed out and covered well but the clearcoat did not give that “wet look” I get from Duplicolor.

Thanks for the replies!

stratisfied/StoneFaceGrin: Two followup questions - did you find that a single 10 oz spray can from TouchUpDirect was enough to cover a Telecaster body, and do you have other suggestions for a clear coat?

Yes. I liked the paint. I did not like the clear.
That's good to know, I used an Automotive Touchup Kia blue, not sure if that's the same product, I have a can of their clear acrylic lacquer. I also have multiple cans of Minwax acrylic lacquer and have been debating which to use.
It's a Jazzmaster body so it's pretty big. i think I'll go with the Minwax. I used two cans of the base paint.
Touch up went on pretty evenly with minimal orange peel, I did get some spattering toward the end of the can but I'll blame myself for that.
Paint is expensive , especially with the mistakes I usually make.

That is a neat color. Looks somewhere between gun-metal blue and black. Like Elvis's hair dye.
Thanks, I saw a Jaguar on Offset Guitar in something like this color. It also had a red head stock, I'm doing that too.
It's a ripoff.:D I'm waiting on some temperate weather to spray the clear coat.

I recently got a custom urethane color mixed into an aerosol can by 66 Auto Color in Missouri. In addition to matching automotive paint codes, they also do Pantone color matching. So they can match just about any shade imaginable. It isn't super cheap as far as aerosols go, but it's the best way to get a non-traditional guitar color. You can also get automotive paint matching done at a Sherwin Williams automotive store. Note that it has to be the automotive Sherwin Williams, they can't do it at the traditional paint stores.

I used 66 Auto years ago to mix the Daphne blue for this guitar! worked out great!
