I got on and saw some interesting forums. However they wouldn't let me post because I don't have Karma.
That must mean I'm not cool enough to post. So I tried to post a pic of a guitar and they said I needed permission first from the guy in charge of guitars.

Imagine if you had to be cool first to post on TDPRI.

I’m banned from the Reddit Guitar forum. The mods there are $hi+e.

That'll be fine, we're all cool. We play guitar.

That's the deal right? I kind of pinned my hopes on this premise when I was 12 and I can't change now!

Which subreddit? Some of those hoops are placed to help filter out the spammy accounts, of which there are plenty.

The coolness rigamarole is to discourage software robots from taking over any more territory than they've already claimed.

Log in, unsubscribe from most of the default subs, upvote a few things that amuse you, reply helpfully to a few posts and before you know it, you'll have all the karma you need, and all your free time and attention will be consumed.

Bear in mind that the vast majority of Redditors are under age 30. Many are teenagers. Your mantra is "Downvote and move on".

My boss suggested I'd like it but what I see seems like obedient posey stuff.
At the other end there's places like offsetguitars.com where they swear at each other about P & R, raw but maybe too much.

Here we can be baddish and coolish as long as we're not too bad or too cool.

Maybe take a moment to learn the rules of the new place if you want to participate. Those rules are meant to keep out bots and spam. Maybe it worked :)

I haven't even tried to get on there, and after my Facebook debacle, and closing my account there, I'm through with that type of social media.

Like a newspaper, I browse the front pate of reddit. If there is something interesting I'll look into it further.

I don't feel the need to participate any deeper.:)

A few years ago, I started the /r/leftyguitarists sub. It has a few members in it now. Oh yeah, and /r/leftydrummers too

I looked at the strat forum and everybody is showing off their MIM strat. Yep, under 30.

I tried it once: wall to wall nonsense. Only Facebook was worse: extended photoessays on the new toaster oven some loser in Kanosha just bought at Walmart. Photos of an imperfect cheeseburger at Wendy's. Endless essentially similar snaps of people's d-----d grand kids blowing soap bubbles. Digital dreck.

Never tried Twitter. Why would I?

Every now and then I’ll put “Reddit” after my search terms to see what they’re saying about a particular piece of gear.

Reddit is a scary place. All of a sudden what you thought were normal folk go on rabbit trails that no humans should ever tread.

I mean, sure, there might be a disproportionate signal to noise ratio, but as with everything in life (and especially the internet), you've got to seek out the good stuff and the things that interest you.

I dunno what subreddits you've visited but I've found ones local to my city pretty engaging and informative with users bringing to light stuff in pretty much real time that more traditional outlets would take longer to uncover, if at all.

Part of the deal with crowdsourced content is that you'll get tons of junk but there's tons of learning to be had from perspectives outside of my own and that's what makes it worth while for me.

I've always assume that Reddit is just another cesspool in the social media universe. I avoid all of it.
TDPRI is my only social media. I used to visit an LSU sports forum but it became overran with political commentary.

Never go into it. Mainly, because the interface seems so archaic and clunky.
