I was making pork chops the other day and on a lark, decided to try and marinate one in some whiskey I had sitting on my counter.… Knob Creek Kentucky straight Bourbon, 100 proof. I only marinated one of the two pork chops as I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Cooked them for about 15 minutes in a 350° oven. The unmarinated one came out a little tough. But the one I marinated in whiskey came out tender and juicy and with a very distinct whiskey flavor infused in it. Now I wouldn’t call this a proper marinade, as I really just dipped the meat into the whiskey on each side for a minute or two, but what a difference it made! Next time I’m going to let it soak longer. You guys have to try this!

Add minced or crushed garlic, chopped onion and a little bit of orange juice, and marinate for at least a couple of hours.

I've thought about trying that. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I just like to drink whisky too much.

I've had pork chops and then whiskey marinated myself. Does that count?

    Does sound good.

I use brandy and melted butter to cook venison butterfly cuts on the stove. Drizzle the leftover juices over steamed baby carrots and rice gives you one of my all time favorite meals.

I indirectly marinated most everything I ate in whiskey for 23 years. :(

IMO that's a waste of Knob Creek. Skillet with onions and butter.

    That's a spendy marinade.

Not pork but steak marinated in bourbon is good. I use the cheap stuff though

I would recommend cooking the whisky first before using it in a marinade. Whenever I want to use wine, beer or alcohol in a marinade I cook off as much alcohol as possible before making the marinade. While many alcoholic liquids add great flavor to a marinade, the alcohol itself does nothing good to the meat. If anything too much alcohol in the marinade will start to denature or cook the meat and make it tougher. Cooking off the alcohol also reduces and intensifies the flavor of the spirit or wine which adds more flavor to the marinade.

I marinade myself in Knob Creek every night.

OK not really. But I do have a few sips nightly. Knob Creek is currently my fav.

no but my liver has fall victim to a few crown Royal marinadings , I tried scotch but my wife said I sounded like "Ground Keeper Willy" afterwards

Agree that it sounds like a good idea but could be done more economically. Evan Williams 1.75L is cheap and tasty.

Yeah I agree that using top shelf would be a stretch for me. Good bourbon is meant to be sipped and savored, next to the fire, with my dad slippers on. I mean like barely an ounce. So a quality bottle can last a while. I'd like to try this, but I'd first try something cheaper.

I've never really needed to marinate Pork Chops, but I often cook them with pineapple Juice and BBQ sauce Or just Country Bob steak sauce.

No - but ask me if I ever urinated on pork chops after consuming too much whiskey, and my answer might be different. I neither confirm nor deny this.
