So ... The long and short of it is there is a bandit for sale locally that has lost the gain channel. I was thinking it may be a straight forward thing and was wondering if anyone has experienced this and what was done to correct it.

    .

Which version of the amp are you looking at? Some of the early ones needed the foot pedal to switch channels, or a modded 1/4 plug that was shorted or switched and inserted into the foot pedal jack to simulate the pedal. I think my Bandit 65 is that way.

You can use the clean channel to run your pedals -- get all your distortion from the pedals.

If it's actually broken, Is the price low enough you would be happy with just a 'clean' pedal amp?
Does it have the transtube feature? As you'll see in the video, he ignores all the drive section of the amp -- perfect for the amp you are considering.

As for the repair ... it's likely a capacitor or a burned up resistor, if not a broken wire at the jack or the jack bent itself -- most common problems.

I once disassembled my Peavey Delta Blues along with the foot switch because I couldn't get the gain channel to work, even though the channel switches tested fine. Google then informed me that the amp's channel switch must be set to the gain channel for the footswitch to work and I felt pretty silly.

Not saying that's what is happening here but yeah that's probably what's happening here.

Clean channel with pedals may be worth the price. I rarely use my Bandit's gain channel.

its $35 so it is a no brainer version wise its an older one not a blue or red stripe. and running it clean with pedals is ok too

Well it now is here in my apt, and a little deoxit in the channel buttons on works like a charm, but Way to loud for my current living space so I may send this silver striper to a new home.

Nope works good after some contact cleaner action. A bit to loud though for my apt.

The Bandit is not a apartment amp. :)

You should have no problem flipping it for a small profit!

What's funny about this is that I had one of the mid-1980's Bandit 65 amps (like the one shown below), and when I cranked it up all the way, the drive and clean channel sounded identical.

I had that amp years ago as well, got it in payment for a side job I did for a friend. mostly used it clean, cranked.
