Well said, PBO. I may be in the minority, but although I can see the Led Zeppelin influences, I really don't think about Led Zeppelin when I hear or watch Greta Van Fleet. I'm just kind of captured by their confidence and style, and again, the raw simplicity of their setup.

I totally agree. I get a whole Zep/Rush/ACDC/GNR vibe rolling off of them and it does my heart good to see someone breathing life back into that style. As others have said, perhaps in time they'll drift into their own signature sound, but for now they're starting from a pretty good place.

And it occurs to me that the old bands we revere took their lead from the rock and blues that preceded them. Give GVF some time. In the meantime, enjoy the revival.

I could think of worse things than spending an evening listening to that band. I hope they progress and find their own voices.

When I started serving my apprenticeship in 1971 one of my instructors noticed I'd doodled the name 'Alice Cooper' on my page. He commented,"this is why your mind is not on your work,it's busy thinking about women". :D

Probably for the better that you didn't tell him that Alice Cooper is a dude who wears makeup.

I think Rival Sons have been a much better classic rock tribute (more bad company than zep) and show a roundedness that GVF haven’t had a chance to develop and probably won’t.

There is, for me, the stink of record label marketing that just won’t go away.

They are a mediocre band with a talented but underdeveloped guitarist and a vocalist who is embarrassingly out of his depth and trying a little to hard to hide it. It’s tragic, really. If these kids had been given another few years to grow before launch, they would likely have become more interesting. As it stands... I feel like I’m watching and listening to a generation z version of Enuff Z’nuff.

My daughter recently mentioned that she had seen Greta Van Fleet several months ago, and I responded, "Oh, how was she?" I was promptly informed that it's actually a BAND-- three young brothers (two of whom are twins) with their friend on drums. So, I checked them out, and man, I have to say, they're fun to watch, and I like the way they keep it straightforward. Here's a sample...

I really like the group, seen many hate on them for “ripping off led zeppelin” but... I prefer this than Justin Bieber or 6ix9ine anyday
But I really like GVF. Seems one of the best bands around today :)

Sorry but I just can't dig GVF, their entire vibe is bothersome to me.

Look, there's plenty of new guitar rock I prefer, for that matter there's plenty of new guitar bands playing derivative 70s classic rock that I think are miles better than GVF -- these guys for instance:

I really dislike ......Led Zeppelin !
Let the young ones come through , let them get popular doing what they want.......but please don't sound like the old guys and girls....be yourself
Who needs a rerun.....I really don't need to hear any of the sixties or seventies stuff ever again , sorry...

While cooking , setting table etc the wife and I have been listening to playlists........I really don't think any songs have been older than the 90's
And , it's not because of Beyonce or other pop music
Pure R&R or blues , by known artists , and people we have gotten to know over the years , live on YT and so...

The singer creeps me out.

They’re often compared to zeppelin. The singers voice is similar to Plant’s, but lets be honest, that’s where it ends. No where near the musicians zeppelin were. Lots of filler on the albums too.

well, tbf, live, jimmy page was often no where near the approximation of a guitarist that appears on record. & as human beings, the zep crew were roundly horrid things that should be rotting in jails.

heck, youtube has done a lot to disabuse me of the notion that people actually listen to what they're hearing: there's Hendrix doing Johnny B Goode with something approaching an acquaintance with the rhythm part. There's even more "& you try to tell me that Eddie Van Halen can play rhythm?" videos out there. And all of em have 100s of "man they just don't make music like this anymore." Fortunately.

worse still, is trying to go back and endure bad company stuff--which i LOVED when i was a kid, almost more than jerry jeff walker.

otoh, find any 70, 71 Santana or Chicago or Mahavishnu & there's a band locked in. or, Elton John:

Any current popular music that features guitars, real drums, and vocals that don't need to be autotuned is good in my book. I do hope they find their own voice soon, though, as they can only squeeze so much out of nostalgia.
Their roll-out was carefully controlled, almost at expert level. But they need to write songs that are catchy. They don't have any.

The guitarist in Greta Van Fleet seems like he might actually be better than Page, at least in a live setting. Page was a better songwriter, but this young kid in my opinion is better than Page as a guitarist.
