I love having the action of my Telecaster for this style.
Most of the folks that play this style are so bound be tradition that they refuse to use non-Django-esque instruments...it drives me nuts when people don’t allow an art form to advance/evolve.
I say, if it sounds good and feels right (musically), go for it!
Post a sound sample when you get the chance...
I don't play gypsy jazz (like it though), but I play acoustic songs on my electric, electric songs on my acoustic, jazz on my nylon string, classical on my Tele...
For the record, Claire de Lune played hybrid style on a Tele is magical.
I know that Django switched to electric guitar in his later years, so, yeah, I agree.
Yes, I play in a gypsy jazz trio. Two teles and a strat. It occasionally sounds like western swing and sometimes ends up surf but definitely Django on a tele.
I play mostly jazz on my Tele, but not gypsy style.
I don't even know what gypsy jazz is.
I'd love to hear it
Electric Django can be very different from the classic gypsy style and sound.
YouTube Django Reinhardt.
Oscar Aleman, Bireli Lagrene, and John Jorgenson, too!
There are many brilliant practitioners of the art.
Great, fiery, passionate stuff!
