Anyone done a burnt wood finish? I ordered a pine Tele body today.

A small torch will do, but it helps to make some kind of spreader for the flame. I'm not sure if they make those as accessories; or you can just fabricate one yourself like we used to do. Just something to make the flame fan out so it's not as concentrated of a jet.

Another thing that you might have noticed in the vid of the guy doing the 1x10s, he kinda preheated the boards before he really applies the flame. That helps. I'd ignore the second vid as (IMO) he was doing it all wrong.

If taking a blowtorch to a poly tele counts, then, yes...but I was merely trying to get paint off..

Well it didn't effectively help remove that poly had to scape that off with cabinet scrapers.
People liked the ..incidental look, and one said 'it looked like it had been burnt in a churchfire".
    Churchfire?

Wow, this is old. I chickened out and it became the clear coated piney you see in my avatar. Great guitar.

I've done like six guitars since, none of then with the burnt finish. In fact I'd forgotten about the idea. Maybe I'll move it back to the front burner now that I saw this thread.

Do it. I'm about to do my first on Saturday (was supposed to be today, but my buddy who's yard I have to use...I live in an apartment complex...put me off till the weekend). Very excited. If it goes well, I may burn a second body too.
