    Hello,

With the Couchcaster (and its derivatives) nearing completion, I am starting to itch to start a new build.

I would like to to do a guitar with P90s, use SE Asian woods and also try to carve a top. I was therefore thinking about doing either a Les Paul Special Double Cut or a Les Paul Studio Type body... with some twist.

Has anyone here used figured monkey pod, aka rain tree, aka samanea saman as body wood?

I have a bunch of "monkeypod" plates/platters from the PI. They are lightweight and durable (now approaching 30 yrs old). I have had a couple of thin ones crack when they dry out, but they are much much thinner than a guitar body.

Used in necks and fret boards, a little heavy for a body, if you ask me.

ok, I have figured out where to buy the stuff. I actually have two blanks drying which I bought at a sawing mill.

I'm currently looking at fully finished 2" thick table tops which could be resawn and used as bookmatched tops.

This table top with a crotch figure could become:

Either of these two. This is actually good fun!

I have some for a project I haven't touched yet. I was warned that if not toxic, it is at least terribly irritating and PPE (goggles and breathing protection) are a must.
