I had one last week based on the results of this thread. While it didn't taste like a regular Whopper, I didn't find it that bad. The texture was good and all the other stuff they put on gave you the impression you were eating a Whopper and Cheese. I wouldn't order one again as the Impossible Whopper, small fries, and small coke came to just shy of 11.00. For 11 dollars I can eat real food someplace. BK Fries kind of blow....The Coke was the best part of it I guess. McD's fries are at the top of the McD, Wendy, BK pile, but I'd rather have some 5 guys fries or similar.

I tried it and could tell zero difference. I didn't try eating just some of the "meat" by itself and seeing if that seemed different in taste and/or texture--might try that next time.

But yeah, someone could have handed it to me as a Whopper, and I'd never have known.

I don't care for BK's fries, much prefer Wendy's or McD's. As for the burger, yes agreed, pretty pricey.

A vegetarian friend told me she tried one and it made her gag because it did taste very much like the real thing.

    So that's a good thing I guess??

Personally I think it's unconscionable that they make burgers out of vegetarians

I think they could get away with selling a seasoned cow patty these days scraped fresh off the field as long as they labelled it vegan and gluten free.

I have. It has been over a decade since I last had a Whopper from BK but, to my memory, they are pretty similar; it's probably in the seasoning.

The biggest difference, in fact, is that the side-effects I always got from eating a Whopper - bloated sensation, feeling low energy - are still present, but in MUCH lower quantity and shorter duration.

IIRC, one of the major players was 0 cholesterol and the other a reasonable or low amount of saturated fats in terms of recommended daily allowances. I'll revisit this because with healthy diet and exercise I have elevated cholesterol again and I hated statins but appreciate outliving my father by several years now.

the part that spooks me is, if the plant based burger tastes like a beef burger, was it really a beef burger in the 1st place ....

i have a sneaking suspicion that the beef flavor was created in a lab somewhere in NJ.

    That would definitely be "plant-based"

Their scientist wont even answer a question on the health benefits without generalising and kind of dodging the question. The manufacturing process looks a lot like how they make animal feed in pellet form. They use real food ingredients in that though.

Saturated fat is one thing (e.g. nuts, avocados, etc.), while cholesterol is another. Plants DO NOT CONTAIN CHOLESTEROL. Though it is possible that some plant foods may increase our bodies' production of its own cholesterol, more of them actual help suppress the absorption of dietary cholesterol. So, if any of the plant-based meats contain actual cholesterol, then it is being added from sources other than plants.

Well, technically, a Telecaster is made from a plant so...

Yes, my bad on confusing descriptions I know while my early day brain was also thinking about what I do to again reduce my total cholesterol without statins.

This topic is becoming more interesting in my day job where we see the marketing from plant and animal meat including the FUD campaigns we're not going to do as a food retailer.

    Do I have this right?

You're in Omaha, and you're eating the Impossible Burger?

Here's what I think: The Beef Police are going to be knocking on your door, soon. What is Omaha without beef?

Oh, never mind. Omaha is about beer. I forgot.
