I can't stand bursts on Strats tbh, and I'm not a huge fan of it on Teles as is- an annoyingly large reason I want to sell my burst MIM...

...and buy a CVC Tele. While it looks bad on its own, binding just completely changes the look of a burst IMHO. And it means both black and white pickguards look great, and not too dark.

The only thing that can begin to make a standard burst look better is a pearloid pickguard.

Plus I like the Koa Teles... but apart from that :p

I love bursts. I love the way the colors melt together.

    Same here!

Me too, really never cared for sunbursts and never intended in owning one. Until I saw a 62 custom tele with bindings - For some reason it just got me.. I began to lust for it and I knew I had to have one.. Which eventually became my 1st sunburst guitar ever. =]

But little did I know it would lead to a 2nd sunburst guitar..

Generally, I don't like bursts on Teles, but there is something special about the 62 Custom with the white binding.

That's why I went for the CVC - I prefer the MIJ as it has less deep black around the edge, but I can't justify the extra cost on that alone, so the CVC is good for me.

Not a big burst fan. I like to see a uniform color, not edges faded to black.

    Sunburst? Heck Yea

My 2011 60th anniversary Tele Standard is a sunburst-and a fine piece of workmanship, I might say.

I'm very picky when it comes to bursts - I never had any interest in owning one for years (and there were even some "classic" looking bursts I was repulsed by), until I saw a '76 Tobacco Burst Les Paul hanging in a local boutique about 5 years ago that I just had to own. Still love it. Never liked the LP Cherry burst at all or any like it until I saw a caramel burst on a ES-339. Those are so sweet. With Ricks, I like almost only the FireGlo on basses - almost never on guitars - and even then there are some I dislike. The Strat/Tele bursts are pretty, but just too common to me to want to own one badly.

    Look at my avatar.

I just finished putting that guitar together about a month ago.

I didn't set out to get a burst, but the price was right on eBay, and I fell in love the moment I opened the box.

(If you want to see a close up, just look at the photo above this post. Mine doesn't look any different.)

I like doing bursts. I think it's a classy way to showcase a nice hunk of wood.

    2-tone bursts. I don't like brown/red/yellow 3-toned bursts. At all.

I agree that I do like the Les Paul vintage sunburst colors (honey, cherry, tobacco). I also love the blue burst on a mildly flamed maple top.

2-tone bursts on Fenders, like tobacco burst, look great on Fenders.

I really love the tobacco burst on the Gretsch 5120. Hollowbodies and 335-like guitars look great with that kind of burst.

What do you think? I actually took my money to buy a vintage blond, but the feel and sound of this one from Dave's at a guitar show couldn't be past up. Custom Shop 54.

On a Tele, its "meh". But i absolutely love a sunburst finish on a strat, especially when coupled with a white pickguard.

I like when bursts showcase the natural grain in the wood like this swamp ash G&L Legacy I play most often.
