We had two gigs this past weekend, one, on Sunday, a fireworks gig we've played every year, except during the unpleasantness, for the past 10 years or so. Always a great gig. Huge crowd. Lots of fun. And the other was a daytime thing at a community Fourth of July celebration/car show on Monday. Again, lots of fun.
And Burlington Dave, I played the same Gretsch, I think, at both gigs, through a SFDR. Love that guitar and with that amp, it sounds amazing.
We had a great private double Birthday gig last Saturday.
Even the Police showed up.
Unfortunately it wasn't Sting, Copeland and Summers
It was so hot and humid, then started pouring down so the doors and windows were open.
they shut us down just before encores. It was halfway sad, yet relieved because of heat.
great gig, none the less
On the 4th of July back in 1991, our band was playing a gig at the obligatory food/beer/culture-fest in our community. In the audience was the most BEAUTIFUL girl I'd ever laid eyes on.
Of course I had to introduce myself during the break.
Fast forward 31 years: Yesterday we had a quiet cook-out with our son and daughter.
Had one scheduled, but the Great Unpleasantness reared its ugly head, and the facility had to shut down outside contact. When the all clear is given, we'll reschedule.
Our band played a private party on Saturday and I did a sound gig yesterday. The band played for three hours before the fireworks. First outdoor gig as a sound contractor this year. About a thousand in front of the stage. Lots of dancing in the street in front of the stage after dark so I know the "Boogaloo" factor was high enough with my rig. The guitarist Jonathan is a true monster of a player. He's from Switzerland and has a band there as well. I'm not sure how you connect as a performing musician from Switzerland to Canton Ohio but it was a pleasure to hear him work. It's So MUCH easier to make a good band sound good than try to put some shine on a mediocre group. 94db on the peaks measured from mix position (my bag chair) across the street about 45 ft from the stage.
Not an array- can you say comb filtering boys and girls?
Everyone had a great time.
Sat in with some young fellers I often jam with. Their newest band hosted a 4th party at a local venue, and they invited me and a friend, whose son is the drummer, to open their 2nd set with a long percussion break. My friend couldn't make it, and their percussionist quit, so I ended up playing for the whole 2nd set.
Thing is, I've mostly quit percussion because my hands are pretty shot from several decades of doing that. And -- I really enjoy playing guitar these days. But, everybody still calls if they need percussion.
Anyway, it was a fun gig, and well-attended because it was the only bar that was open. Got free beer and made 50 bux.
