I like to listen to whole albums.

I'd like to listen to some Waylon today. Keep getting sucked into playlists full of live/duets/highwaymen, etc.

I want to listen to a cohesive whole album that's just Waylon (and his team), but I have no idea where to begin.

Which albums should I listen to? Which ones are his best and why? Any stories or interesting facts about individual albums you'd like to share??

*Please no greatest hits or supergroups or live albums. I want plain ol' studio albums, made like Waylon and his folks intended at the time. A record of a moment for the man - studio quality. Thanks!

When I find someone new (to me) I get the discography off the internet and start with the first recording. You can usually find the full album on YouTube.

    I do that, too!!!
I really enjoy watching an artist unfold.

U2 was fun. Pearl Jam. Radiohead was one of my favorites like that. Neil. Some of them take some work.
I’ve never been able to make it through Bob Dylan’s discography........

Waylon was a great singer and very underrated as a guitarist ... IMHO ...

    Ol Waylon.

it has 'if you see me gettin smaller, I'm leavin'

it is chips moman, so a more 'refined' waylon... but really the album that moved him from country star to phenomenon.

Here is one from 1968 that must have been his mother’s choice. I grew up in the neighborhood and knew the Jennings from the early ‘60s on. Waylon had moved on by then. Mrs. Jennings had me sing one song from this album one afternoon in her home...’Amanda’. This album is from the pre-outlaw days, of course.

Waylon may have been underrated as a singer too. Some of his Nashville stuff puts his vocals on par with Roy Orbison, IMO. That guy had a serious range.

Thank you - this album has a nice version of "Lucille" that I'd never heard before.

First song I learned on the guitar. Dig that solo.

I see Waylon and was like what?
I thought you were speaking of this guy:

Anyway, if I find an artist I like I get his discography. And start with an album that has a song that hooked me

Might be nostalgia, but I really like some of his underrated late 70s/early 80s albums:
-What goes around comes around (79)
    -Music Man (80)
    -Back on Black (82)

Picked up all of them on vinyl in excellent shape for next to nothing over the last year. There was an infusion of funk in his country in that period that I really dig.
