That's a valid point. Does the GTX even have a USB port? I assumed it would connect to a laptop via bluetooth, the same as with a tablet or phone. Most newer laptops are now bluetooth-enabled.
I would think a Desktop app would more than likely require USB. If I recall, it does have a USB C port.

*Edit: But I see that's also all covered on the download page, which states specifically that the software doesn't support bluetooth and doesn't work with GTX amps. D'oh.
Yes, just looked on mine. The GTX does have a usb connection, but I have never had reason to use it (after having the amp for three years I didn’t even know it was there until now).

First, I think the GTX100 is one of the best values in amps you can get. Players are raving about the Tone Masters but this one gets really close to that sound (and does a lot more) for half the money.
I know the TMs are known to have "tube response" that this may not duplicate but they do sound great.
And it has saved me a fortune on pedals, my board only has three: a tuner, a 10-band EQ and an almost-always-on compressor (plus the included footswitch).

Another point, this footswitch is fantastic and really adds to the functionality of the amp. You can switch between presets and turn on/off individual effects pedals as you play. Has a 60-second looper and tuner. Anyone buying the 50 without the footswitch is cheating themselves, may as well pay the extra and get the 100.

I bought the LT-25 for home three years ago as my first guitar amp and it is fantastic! I got a USB cable, downloaded the free Tone software that makes it so easy to mod the presets and got a free copy of Audacity that lets me record into my computer. Love everything about it and it was only $135 with my discount.

Decided I might upgrade so watched for a sale on the GTX 100, when it was $50 off a year ago I grabbed one. Really disappointed that it doesn't work with the PC Tone software that is fantastic with the LT-25. And I didn't get a smartphone until just a few months ago so couldn't work it that way either. First time I turned it on it seached for WiFi but I don't want WiFi at home so leave it turned off in my router.

I just plugged the GTX USB into my computer and see it allows me to upgrade the firmware (instead of needing WiFi), glad to see that.
And the amp does work with the Fender Tone software but only with the app for a smartphone or tablet, not the PC version.
Also allows me to record into the computer with my Audacity software.

I've had a GTX100 for a little over a year now. I sold a Blackheart 5/3w tube amp and nearly all my pedals. The amp does exactly what I want it to do, and I'm not chasing gremlins in pedals or patch cables. It sounds great, allows me to get sounds I want (lots of downloadable profiles) and on the odd occasion where it leaves the house, is lightweight.

Will it last as long as a `59 Bassman? Unlikely, but neither will I.

Funny and/or stupid story. Any input or thoughts would be appreciated.

I stumbled upon a local listing for what I thought was a GTX-100 amp for a very reasonable price. I proceeded to meet with the seller for a demo. I found it to be very easy to use, sounded great, and had plenty of volume and tone (you know, in case I get hounded by offers to go on tour and this amp would be a vital addition to my gear). I bought it after figuring everything was a win/win. I didn't have to travel far, I was helping a bro out, and the price was right.

I didn't realize until I got home that it was actually a GT-100. I never even heard of this amp and it looks identical other than the obvious X in the model number.

Info on the GT-100 is much harder to find than you would assume. Overall, I am satisfied with the amp and haven't even touched the foot switch yet. I'll always wonder though. Does anyone know any obvious differences between it and the GTX? Any advice?

I owned both. GT100 then sold and got the GTX. The difference is the cabinet and the speaker. The GTX speaker is a little better IMO but not nite and day. The amp *CAN* be different if the firmware has not been updated. The GTX came ut with the version 3 firmware which is much better then what the GT had. However, fender allowed GT users to download the V3 firmware giving he GT basically all the same sounds and models. So you shoud check ad see which version you have and update it if it isn't V3. If it's already updated or you go ahead and update it, your amp will be pretty much the same as the GTX tho the speaker and cabinet both have a slight tonal improvement And the GTX can is nicer looking than the weird GT cab that looks like some sort of futuristic home entertainment center rather than a guitar amp. Personally having owned both i would say if you come to realize it's a keeper, i'd sell it and get the GTX. The differences are IMO worth it.

I had a GTX50 for about a year. I liked it, but eventually sold it to my brother. He's had it for around 6 months and is still over the moon with it. Here's the best I can share about my experience. I bought it because I wanted something for silent practice that could model all of my real amps. Unfortunately, the LT25 doesn't have the Super Reverb model, so I had to go with the 50.

Pros: It does the emulation really well. Especially the Fender amps, but also a good job of Vox, Marshall, and Mesa. The cab models are nice too. Not sure how accurate they are, but provide some meaningful options. All of the effects are good. It really helped me to explore different effects before committing to buying real pedals for my board. The bluetooth feature was great to be able to just send tracks to it from my iPad and play along. I could really jam along to any audio from my music list, spotify, youtube, etc. And that was great.

Cons: You absolutely need the footswitch to make any quick changes. Even with the iPad, it takes a while to switch between presets. No chance of playing live and having to go quickly from clean/dirt or wet/dry without it. When dialing in a preset, it is very time consuming. There are so many parameters to tweak that you can really waste a lot of time getting everything set when you could be playing instead. And, it is also time consuming to go in and tweak the individual parameters, such as bass and treble, on the fly. Also, the baseline or global volume for different presets are all different. Just because you have the amp volumes and master volume at one level doesn't guarantee that when you switch to another preset, it won't be wildly louder or quieter than the last. It takes a loooong time to go through them all and equalize them. The amp wi-fi receiver has very poor reception. I had to nearly place it very near the router to get it to connect for updates. And I have had no problems with any other device anywhere in the house. Also, I hated the stock speaker and it is partially inside a baffle and wired directly to the PCB, which makes a swap a lot more involved than it should be. This was a non-issue for me since I used it only for nighttime practice. But it is something to note. Lastly, the feel of a real tube amp just isn't there.

In the end, I moved it on for 2 main reasons. The feel/dynamics just weren't there and it took too long to dial in sounds I wanted. I would spend most of my practice time navigating menus and when I did get the tone I liked, it was just real clinical feeling and not fun to play (for me) like the real amps are.

Thanks, Fender4life. Just about all the info I was ever able to get on the GT100 is about upgrading the firmware and nothing more. All search results pointed to GTX amps and the Boss GT100 despite my attempts to search with any and all quotation marks or syntaxes.

Again, I had no idea this model even existed until I got a second look at it when I got home and had a WTF moment. The seller advertised it accurately and it is 100% on me. Oh well. Close enough and the price was right!

Good to know about the speaker too. That is a cheap and easy enough modification if we ever have to cross that bridge.

The amp works perfectly fine and sounds pleasing to the ear which is all that matters.

Great to hear from someone with first hand knowledge of both amps. Cheers!

Not sure if fender will sell a GTX speaker without proof yours is shot. I know they can be weird about that when it comes to proprietary speakers. But the one u have is probably better then most speakers you can but because they are designed by celestion for fender to be optimal for the amp. And haveing tried several speakes including 2 of my all time favs, the stock ones in both the GT and GTX tend to work best. I wasted time and money experimentng so take my advice, the one in your amp is fine and while you may find better it would likely only be if you tried a tn f speakers. So s long as your firmware is Version 3 just pay and don't worry abut anything. Theyre excellent amps. Time ad time again mine has proven itself at jams gigs and recently at a blues jam where it shined cmpared to everyone elses amp in clarity and cutting thru in the right way.

I’ve currently got a Cube 30x but I’ve found myself looking at these amps more and more lately. Any idea if these would be an improvement over the Cube?

I have had my GTX50 going on five years and never used the USB. There is a USB port on my Mackie ProFX12 mixer and I've never used that either.

I have a GTX100 and it is a very useful piece of equipment IMHO. I would buy used instead of new. The Fender amps are pretty good as are the effects. It also an acoustic guitar amplifier setting. It is designed to go direct into a PA or recording device and sounds decent to my ear. The phone app has worked well for what I have used it for. What it doesn't do is sound like the BFSR in my avatar. Shane on youtube has some footage of him playing live with a band with the GTX100 if that is your interest. Good luck!
