I just picked one up on a whim. I had one when it was the original GC release, I believe. I never gave it enough time to bond with it and quickly sold it. I usually play with just dirt and delay, so I decided to give it another shot.

I could not be happier. I could easily use this and a clean amp and nothing else. I'm probably a different player now and can appreciate it more.

It's rather dark toned so it even works well with bright amps and guitars without getting buzzy. I set the gain max, tone at 2:00, drop the amp mids a bit, select the bridge pick up and it's instant magic. It cleans up so well with the guitar volume without losing clarity, especially the bridge pu. The neck pick ups can sound a bit wooly, but still very usable and a distinctly different feel. I'm a set it forget it delay user, so it works for me out of the box at approx 120bm repeats, but it is adjustable with inside trim pots.

Anyway, I've been digging it immensely and thought I'd share. Does anyone know what the fuzz is based on? It's almost a hybrid. Some distortion qualities, some fuzz.

I too had one for a short while and gave up on it too quickly. Today I have an OCD on board and have never liked that type of OD. But now I use it a lot. I'm thinking I might like the MP GC... now days?

It's funny, the OCD is another pedal I tried in different versions and never bonded. Which version do you have? There's something about Fulltone dirt that never grabbed me. Always seems too brash or gritty for my ear.

I have one I bought used a long time ago. Never really bonded with it either. I’m using a different amp these days. Maybe I should get it out and give it another shot.

Apparently it is a modified Big Muff Pi circuit.

Glad you like it!
That's what I was guessing. I haven't had a Big Muff since the 80's so I can't truly compare, but there are definite similarities.

Edit: It is the MP Amber Drive in there. Finally found a post. Mimics a fuzz into an overdriven amp they say. I will say the sustain is incredible! The Amber Drive is supposed to have more output.

I wish I could justify a few Mad Professor pedals. They are definitely my jam. lol...just too expensive.

I have an MP Amber Overdrive. It's a niche pedal for me, supposedly targeting singing Eric Johnson tone. Fun to use, it does feel and sound good if you're going for something like that.

The demos in the MP site are incredible. Whoever does that is one hell of a player.

I thought about getting one but have never had the chance to try one out. I tend to like my dirt a bit on the bright side to mesh with my tweed amps (the OCD and Big Muff Pi I have just don't cut through the mix very well), so the Mad Professor might be the same. I'd still like to try one though.

Yeah, this may not be the pedal for tweed style amps.
