Any love for the Fender Toronado out there???

The Toronado has got to be my favorite "post-Leo" Fender guitar. Good-looking, solid, and straightforward. What the heck happened? I still can't believe they quit making them. Who out there has one, and where does it fit in your arsenal?

    Thanks,
    Scott

I had a chance to buy one for $125 once in a pawn shop. It just wasn't a player at all though.
I mentioned to the owner that it did say 'Fender' on the headstock, which is rare to find in this little town.
The next time I went in it had a $300 price tag on it.
It must have sold, it wasn't there later.

I'm not sure what happened, but they just never really seemed to catch on.

The other guitarist in my band has one, yellow with p90s. He doesn't bring it often to practice, but when he does it sounds great. It seems small in my hands, like a Jaguar, and the p90s have a nice 50s rock vintage sound to them.

Up until a week ago I didn't know that they existed. Now I want one!

If you mean fender toroNADo, I have one from the first run, those humbuckers are awesome, the neck position has hands down some of the boldest tones I've ever heard anywhere, and the bridge twangs big time... I found mine (blacke w/red tort) at a pawnshop with a black hardshell case for $225. ...the case alone is worth over 100 beans, but neither I nor the pawn broker had ever heard of it, he thought it was a knock off with a fender neck:twisted:,,,[IMG] stock photo, but this is what mine looks like, one of my favorites by fender,,, the middle position really blends the two pickups so well, this has been a great feature to switch back and forth from lead to rhythm or loud/soft or whatever, i cannot express what a great guitar this has been, if you see one, get it,,,put p-90's in there if you want, I've been tempted but the humbuckers are so killer:D

see above, les paul type blends (4 knobs) one pickup switch, not too complicated really, you have a switch for one pickuo or the other, then you can even have both going(middle) and then you can even set the volume and tone for each of those magnetic pole things(pickups) not as spare as a tele, but not Too difficult either:lol:

We had a Toronado, a 1998 model, black with tortoise shell guard and rosewood fretboard. I do regret letting it get away. It was an incredible player. I'd love to have another one just like it.

I think it's a really great piece for deconstructing/reconstructing into a good all around utility instrument
