Love this lady; what a great songwriter/performer:
Are you kidding? She is one of my alltime favorites.
All her music is great, but I have a special place in my heart for "Sweet Old World".
Big Love! she has a new one coming out soon- my favorite is the s/t album
Oh yeah I love Lucinda Williams!! I only have a few CDs, but that song "I Envy The Wind" is about as achingly beautiful as anyone can get. I literally get in a trance when I listen to it.
I love a lot of her stuff, and she has some material I don't care for. But at her best, she is awesome. I once drove about 1600 miles round trip to see her in concert. It was worth the trip.
Aside from the melodies, and the great musicians she has join her in the studio and on tour, I love her lyrics. Her dad was an English professor if I'm not mistaken, and Lucinda has a writer's gift for telling a story with specific details that bring the song to life. These are a couple of my favorites:
I agree - her genius lies in how she can get so much across with such simplicity.
She's amazing. I'm also a fan of Gurf Morlix, her former guitar sideman. Terrific player, and quite a songwriter as I discovered after your post got me looking around on youtube for some of his music. Check out this link to the song "One More Second"
Yes... yes I do...
Lucinda Williams - Hot Blood
Saw her at the Boulder Theater a few years ago. To be honest, she wasn't in top form. I've heard her that live performances can be somewhat inconsistent.
Doug Pettibone was on guitar, he was great!
I also have her ACL DVD with Kenny Vaughan on guitar. Another must have if you're into Lucinda.
Maybe..... I've seen her 3 times and they were all good, but she does have an infuriating habit of stopping in the middle of a song and starting it up again if she's not pleased with the way it sounded. Either that or she has ADD
Great stuff. Love her voice. I believe she won a Grammy for Car Wheels on a Gravel Road.
Yeah, she's wonderful... for some reason, I always listen to her while doing the dishes... it works for me. Can't Let Go is a favorite. I think everything on Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is fantastic.
Alex W. posted my two Lucinda favorites.
Just love her.
Anybody know who will be her new guitarist? I heard a while back that Pettibone left.
Her voice really grates on me. And the one time I saw her live she made her audience wait a loooong time before she came out and then had to put up with her babbling about how glad she was she wasn't a bigger star. Then there was that embarrassing ACL performance where she had to read the words to her own songs.
But "World Without Tears" is wonderful. Great songs and raw emotion from the depths of her soul.
