I have a '63 Vibroverb Reissue.... It is far and above my favorite amp. The thicker cleans combined with bias vary trem. It's just pure tonal heaven for me.

I was hoping to score an Ampeg J-20 for a while... but as I come across them they seem to elude my purchase at the last second!

I keep hoping to find a real vintage brown or blonde amp when I have cash available. I am seriously considering trying to chase down a nice Tremolux Piggy Back set. It sounds just about the right combo for me... 2x10's, about 35 watts of power and tremolo!

But, I will say, for sure, brownface tones are my favorite of all Fender tones.

They are both closer to tweed than blackface, and that's where I like to sit. Some day I'd love love love to own a Super.

I've had this Deluxe for a couple of weeks. Love every minute I've played through it.
Played my Blackface DR for the first time in 2 weeks yesterday just so it wouldn't feel too left out.

I wanted a brown deluxe last year, but couldn't swing the cost of an original. I had a clone built for me instead, as a headcab. I've been in love with it ever since. I liked the general tweed tone, but not the loose low end. This has been the cure for me.

I just picked up this '61 Deluxe last week. These are perfect for small clubs where overall volume is an issue. They break up at a reasonable level but still seem to hold it together pretty well; depending on the speaker being used. Mine has a late 1960 power tranny (606042) with a mid '61 output tranny (606121). The speaker was a reconed 1960 P12R and not original to the amp (220018). I installed a '58 P12P and will give it the test tomorrow with the band.

I gigged one of these for years.
    Stock, yet.
    I LIKED the speakers.
But my main frame of reference was always my tweed Deluxe, and I always missed the rectifier tube.
I imagine an original would be incredible.

I picked up my '62 Fender Super - 2x10 (6G4a) last year, to say that I lucked out is an understatement. I have always loved Fender Supers, an old buddy has a silverface 4x10 that opened my ears up about 25 years ago. I always thought that the amp had gorgeous sound was tonally as responsive as anything I've ever played, over the years the Super became my holy grail amp. Then one day that '62 appeared in the ether. I went and checked it out, plugged it in, hit a chord and the amp dumped me straight onto my ass. Holy smokes, Great googly moogly, Holy mother o' God, this amp makes my buddies Silverface sound like a 30 yr old cube 60. Needless to say I left there 75 lbs. heavier and much tighter through the doorways. With the amp at home, she truly shone, from chocolatey low volume clean to nastiest grind and a variety of tone that I keep discovering every day, I was a fool deeper in love than I had ever been before and with the best sounding amp wiggler ever, to boot. I own quite a few amps, come classics, some modern, none better than the 'ol Super, hands down. I also own a '62 (6G6b) Brownface Fender Bassman which was the best amp ever (including everyone that's ever played it), until Super came by. The Bassman had been unhappily ignored over in the corner for the last little bit, so I dragged it out and hooked it up, too. Now I've got the most mind blowing stereo set-up to boot! Here's a photo of the two of them along with my '60s Echolette tube tape delay/echo unit, lucky me! Lookie da fotos! :D

Just like mine! Very, very cool Vibrate-Oh!. One day I was fingerpicking stuff, and instead of turning the Vibrate-Oh! off, I just turned the Speed all the way down, leaving the Intensity at around 4 or 5. I figured that with the Speed turned all the way down, it wouldn't do anything. But it did! Very, very cool, slow, swirlies! Positively ethereal!

I just lucked into a brownface '63 twin that was converted to a head unit. I run it through a 2x15 JBL cab from the same era. Its pretty awesome! I haven't had an opportunity to play it out yet, but I'm hoping to next weekend. I've been playing a '65 ri twin reverb and this thing is a totally different animal. Plus the vibrato is the best!
