Considering I am from Atlanta, I grew up on this and Street Survivors being in my collection.

Ronnie Hammond was a great vocalist, and there was some very good guitar work from James R Cobb, Barry Bailey and Paul Goddard. If I remember correctly, Cobb and Bailey played various Les Pauls and a Strat, whereas Paul Goddard handled the low end of the bass by playing a Rickenbacker 4001 through a giant stack of Ampeg amps.

I do own the Champagne Jam album, as well as an ARS Greatest Hits collection I bought a few years ago at a thrift store.

There really is no such thing as Southern Rock anymore. I think the Black Keys come a little close to perfecting that genre.
My dad saw the ARS at the Texxas Jam around 78.
I hope some boomer visits this thread and thanks me for bringing back their early years.

Atlanta Rhythm Section is actually supposed to be playing a gig sometime in Atlanta with Jefferson Starship, The Black Crowes and Canadian blues guitarist Pat Travers. Certainly a good thing to see, that's for sure!!

Loved em’.
Angel is my favorite song by this incredibly talented band.
They we’re comprised of members of Dennis Yost & The Classics IV, and Roy Orbison’s backup band, the Candymen.
The late Ronnie Hammond was a fine singer, and the late Paul Goddard was a great bass player.
Barry Bailey was a fantastic guitar player.
He played a gold top Les Paul Deluxe into a Marshall.
Yikes!

P.S. A recent search informed me that all the members have passed away.
RIP, and thanks, gentlemen.

My favorite album of theirs was Red Tape. Played that a lot.
Our band does a kind of hybrid version of Spooky - partly Classics IV with some ARS touches. We also do Stormy right after Spooky sometimes as a little tribute. Once in awhile someone will actually make the connection.

Back in the 70's, I used to take electronic gear, amps, mixers, etc. to a little electronics shop in a sort of industrial/office park area in Doraville, GA. This shop was adjoined to, and (I think) owned by the same folks that ran Studio One. I got to meet Messrs. Bailey and Goddard a few times. Really nice, regular Doraville guys.
Living within easy drive of Atlanta, in 1978, I attended the Champagne Jam festival, and the earlier Dog Days festival in 1977, both at Georgia Tech Grant Field.
Due to their level of musicianship, I always considered them the "Southern Steely Dan". @IMMusicRulz @brookdalebill , that bass break, he11, the whole bass line to "Angel" is one of the best bass lines ever recorded. Barry Bailey's playing is exactly how an unmolested Les Paul Deluxe with mini-humbuckers should sound. SO many of them got routed or chiseled out to accommodate humbuckers.

Great band. I saw them at Vanderbilt basketball stadium in 1978. As soon as they started playing Champagne Jam my friend popped a bottle of champagne poured a glass and handed to the singer. The singer took a drink and tossed the glass over his head towards the back of the stage. My friend looks at me and says “that glass was my moms good crystal“.

I wonder if she ever missed it.
