Nothing more than a damp, not wet cloth if it's got gunge on it. Otherwise a good brisk rub with a dry microfibre cloth and building up a bit of heat will remove the stickiness. Anything else can get under the finish around the frets and stain the wood.

I use Gorgomyte on all of my gear both as a fret and neck cleaner and to treat my rosewood boards.

It's the best and easiest one step solution I've found. Clean with a small patch of treated cloth, wipe clean, finish with a soft microfiber cloth for polishing. $10 cloth can be cut into smaller pieces to easily do 12-15 instruments.

I guess it depends on whether any bare wood is exposed. If there isn't, I'd start with a dry chamois leather. Then go to a damp microfibre cloth. Maybe then if needed a little window cleaner, sprayed onto the cloth not the guitar.

If bare wood is exposed, I'm not going to suggest anything.

If it's a poly-coated neck or body just use a general cleaner like Fantastik or 409. Works great and does no harm. If it's nitro then naptha as jimgchord already recommended.

try virgin coconut oil,it will dissolve most grime. wipe it on wait 5 minutes wipe it off. also works well on the back of the neck for making it go faster.

Lighter fluid for sticky stuff on the neck. Fretboard area, use care. Bare wood and fret grooves don't like foreign liquids. (Though hand sweat and grime will eventually stain the fretboard in a "relic" kind of way.)

Any guitar polish, or WD40, or Lemon Pledge. Whatever you like. I like the Pledge it seems to leave the surface clean with no residue, although that may not be true it feels like that!

Murphys oil soap-----a little goes a long way.
Bad idea. MOS has water in it that can soak in and swell places where the finish is compromised.

Naphtha, AKA lighter fluid is about the safest thing to use. it will not harm any finish and will not soak into places were the wood is unfinished like a water based product will.

Condition rosewood and ebony fretboards with mineral oil.
