Double Moon Trail
B Aspinwall, June 2022

V1
Jet trails lace, buzzards high
Double moon in half the sky
Halfway home and still long gone
Take the trail that’s just beyond

Chorus
Double rainbow double moon
Double fiddle call the tune
Day old donuts stale kombucha
Take the trail that seems to suit ya

V2
Evaded cadence shade enough
hair shirt suited for sterner stuff
Sackcloth sail and shoeless goat hair
Take the trail beyond repair
Chorus

Bridge
The iris making nice is
Everywhere you look
The iris making nice is
Everything you lack
and autumn is calling behind your back

V3
The creek is up, the day is wrong
memories of memories still too long
Flat light morning late afternoon
Take the trail of the double moon
Chorus & out

For Man, Woman, Duet.

A one-day honeymoon
Let me be your suitor, in this summer suffused air
You're looking so much cuter, with the less it is you wear

Let's ride out to the country, let the wind blow through our hair
With the scent of sun kissed skin, I'll be without a care

Let's have a picnic,
There is so much we can share

I will pack a basket
I'll bring along some wine
We'll spread a big soft blanket
Drink a toast to Valentine........
Let's have a picnic,
Enjoy a sunny afternoon
As we romp about and frolic
Like a one-day honeymoon

I'll make a bed of flowers, down by the riverside
Take me where you want me, you can be my guide
I've got a few ideas, some things I've never tried
I don't know what you mean, you've got me mystified
We're gonna Picnic,
Until we're satisfied

I will pack a basket
I'll bring along some wine
We'll spread a big soft blanket
Drink a toast to Valentine........
Let's have a picnic,
Enjoy a sunny afternoon
As we romp about and frolic
Like a one-day honeymoon

Yeah We'll romp about and frolic
And have a one-day honeymoon

I like it. Especially the bridge.

Time for someone volunteer a theme for the July challenge.
Suggested theme for July, to be posted before Friday 29th. Apply the topic/theme wherever/however you want.
Incomprehension.

How do you think we should carry on; keep expanding this thread, or start a fresh one every month? I would favour the latter.

When George Harrison died, my boss asked me to quote one of his songs in our newsletter. I spent half an hour sifting through his lyrics and couldn't find anything that stood alone as a meaningful thought.

His songs are good because of the way the words and music fit together, not because of how either sounds standing alone. E.g:

"I look at the floor and see it needs sweeping, while my guitar gently weeps."

"I dig love. . . . I love dig. . . ."

And speaking of summer songs: "Here comes the sun, and I say, "It's alright."

The verse that sticks with me from that song is:

"With every mistake, we must surely be learning, still my guitar gently weeps."

Yeah, that 'sweeping' line is a filler. But still, because of its essence and historical significance and just plain beauty, it's one of the greatest songs of all time, IMHO.

The apparent simplicity of Here Comes the Sun makes it so brilliant.

All things must pass, you know?

Exactly!

I've written poems, but when I try to put them to music, they suck.

For the songs I've written, I always write the the words and music simultaneously; or start with a chorus and add a few words and go simultaneously from there.

It seems like some of you have the tune in your head already with these lyrics. Wouldn't it be good to post a recording of the song – no matter how rough – with the lyrics?

Or are these strictly lyrics without music?

I too favour the latter. Similar to the Random Daily Photos for month X one.

I was hoping to join in here, but just too busy. Maybe the next one?

Oh, and doh, just checked and it’s already been started.

Sure, if I knew how. It sounds like it takes some work.

Is it the uploading of your songs to this site that you don’t know how to do? Or recording the song itself?

BTW– My post wasn’t directed only to you (though if you were performing original music, I’d like to hear some!). Anyone who is posting lyrics it would be cool to hear the music , too!

Yeah, I don't know how. And I've got nothing to brag about, so it seems like more trouble than it's worth. And I haven't recorded for a few years, anyhow. Just been writing, jamming, and gigging.

Here are about thirty of my originals: https://www.thefullertons.net/dreadnot.html

The text is fiction. The songs are all by me, multi-tracking in the basement.

I've quoted drewg before in the July thread but just wanted the context here.

Ok, still a work in progress but here's what I've done with the lyrics that I posted earlier in this thread.....
