Depending on condition of frets, electronics, and the originality of everything else, it's a player's grade guitar now, and most likely worth in the area of $2000 at best. Years ago, Two vintage guitar dealers (I know the name of one of them) conspired to raise prices on pre-CBS Jazzmasters, so they jacked up the prices, especially on custom colors, and the ploy worked. Everyone started paying serious $$ for them once bands like Sonic Youth and guys like Nels Cline started telling everyone how great their JMs were. Jazzmasters had always been sleepers until then.

Had you provided pictures, maybe you would have gotten an answer faster, but maybe not.

Again, a picture of what? I'm just asking a quetion. What if I had asked what MIM teles are selling for in your area? Geez. Would you need a picture of that to tell me what they sell for in your town?

Admin: please delete this thread. This has really gotten out of hand.

why don't you just take the JM to an independent guitar shop...or even GC and get it appriased? and if not that, just research it on the web. either way you'll get a good idea of it's worth.

ive been looking for an old jazzmaster for a few years- ive been finding that even bad refins, and real hackjobs are going for more than im capable of paying.
a decent pre cbs refin, with most of the original parts, in playing condition fetches $1700-$2400. the better the condition, the more original parts are left, the higher the quality of the refin, the more you will get.
ive seen stripped pre cbs bodies, with no other parts, go for $800.
mind you, im not talking about around my area, never see these things here-
but ive been watching the internet.
i paid $300 for a 71 bronco not long ago, locally-
missing the pickup, trem posts and arm, and strap buttons.
non original pickguard.
needs complete refret and some fretboard repair- totally unplayable, even for cowboy chords right now lol.
body slightly reshaped due to oversanding (had to rebuild the lower horn),
and sporting a bad refin.
but thats a deal for me- i can do the work, i can afford the $300 price-
cant afford to buy something like this in great shape.
the good news(for you, not me), is that even a total basket case pre cbs JM would be out of my price range. you could likely throw it all in a box as it sits and get $1200 or more for it.

MIM Teles are pretty common, so it's not too hard to give an estimate once you've seen hundreds of ads.

Pre-CBS Jazzmasters are seldom listed for sale, so it's hard to give a price range. The few I've seen have been original finish and go for around $3-4000 asking price, though they don't sell quickly. It's a limited market.

We're just asking for a pic to help us estimate a price.

My own '62 has been badly refinished, but if I was patient, I might get around $1-1500 for it.

It's sadly worth more parted out, selling it by the piece, but I am reluctant to do that.

Im new to this 'Jazzmaster' mystique with my recent purchase of a Squier VM Jazzmaster. It was by pure chance that I grabbed it off the wall at a music store to try out a new amp that I was interested in. Needless to say..I was hooked within minutes. If you love Telecaster..how could you not love a Jazzmaster?? Im not a Strat guy as I don't care for their sound or the feel of playing one with the middle pup that seems to be in the way constantly when trying to pick

Those 60s Jazzmasters in my mind, would be or should be worth much Much more than what some say they are fetching for  Even if they are refinsihed and refretted and even dare I say..Refurbished, they trully are in my eyes, a very diserable Guitar. As long as the body and neck are the original peices and are not cracked and badly banged up..I would pay a fair bit for one..especially if it were Refurbished..and I would prefer an old guitar to be refurbished rather than looking beat. So you see..it's all in the eye's of the buyer. Side by side if there was one that was all original and looked beat like so many orginals, and the other was the exact same everything but completely Refurbished looking New..I would pay more for the Refurbished one instantly..but that's me...I don't care what the Market dictates and say's that the unmolested one is worth more...Not in my eye's or the money in my Wallet

Anyway...those guitars are sleepers it seems..and not sure why..Geeze..they have so many tonal options for recording and playing live..but for me..they are a bit to complex to use all of there features playin out live..Hence..why the Vintage Modified Squier works well for a player like me..especially playing live. Unless your pressed for bucks...I would consider it a blessin to have an old Jazzmaster and fix it up and Play the pisser out of it..but again..that's just me  Here's me and my Very inexpensive Jazzmaster playin out last weekend..Im just happy to have one even if it's a Squier to tell ya the truth :D

If the guitar is all original and in great shape aside from the refin, $2500 to $3500.

The major factors on what price you get will be:

1) refin color (this matters a lot, desirable finishes easily bring more $$$)
2) Slab board vs Veneer (slab board will get you considerably more $$$ as well)
3) Neck condition (aka, how is the rosewood?)

If not all parts are original, the value will be lower, of course.

If the guitar is clean, refin prices are better than 50% of an original example, more like 60% to 70%. This has changed a lot in the past few years - used to be more like 50%.
