I drove hot rods daily from my first car (67 Nova two door hardtop in '79) to the '56 Chevy Delray two door that was my daily driver from '87-03. Then when we bought Mrs. Lucky a new Corolla in 2003, I switched over to her '96 Tercel, with the intention of repainting/rebuilding the '56. Having a daily driver with air, cd player, good brakes, steering, etc. spoiled me. It got worse a couple years later when we bought her a new Chevy Equinox and I took over the Corolla. Great handling, brakes, power steering, air, comfortable seats, great gas mileage, decent power...I softened up too much. That, and the '56 needed a lot of $$$. Sold it in 2006 to a guy who has since rebuilt it.

I do miss the '56, but my back and wallet are happier (still driving the '03 Corolla, 176,000 miles and still going strong)

I do have a '67 Sprite MkIV in pieces in my garage, but it will probably be sold...

Where we grew up going surfing along the coast we drove non de-script standard cars/vans.... the guys with hot cars/mag wheels, etc were a target for the cops to pull over.....

and having money for gas was more important...;)

Indeed I do love hot rods. Vehicles I have owned:
    1965 Plymouth Barracuda 273 HP
    1963 1/2 Ford Galaxy 500
1948 Dodge pickup w/392 Red Ram Hemi
    1965 Chevy Malibu convertible 327
    1969 Plymouth Roadrunner 383 4 speed
1970 Chevy El Camino 383 stroker
1954 Ford F100 351 Windsor C4 3:55 posi (now belongs to my son)

I am retired (fixed income) and cannot afford the cost of build and upkeep of a hot rod. I am an owner of a 2019 Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe and that is costing enough for upkeep.

I have a '52 Hotrod but I changed out the pickups to be a non-hotrodded but very twangy Telecaster.

My hot rod is outfitted with RFT High Gain in V1, Mullard CV4004 in V2, Groove Tube in V3, and the stock GT 6L6s.

    I love my hot rod.

I'm an old school guy and old to boot and may ruffle some feathers, but gents imports are not hot rods, I don't care how fast they go. Real hot rods are built from original American produced cars. Ford, GM or Chrysler for example.

The term "hot rod" does not apply to production model muscle cars, or sport cars. You have to perform modifications to the vehicle.

I’ll stick with the German hot rods, thank you very much.

But to each his own - I like ‘em all.
