Any chance that this is/was a DiMarzio DP173 Twang King

    Hi everyone,

good things first, ebay already confirmed the refund.
But I'm curious about this "Twang King" I just got.
For sure, the wiring is ripped off, the backplate is missing and the terminal wires are completely different (so far about good used conditions), but was this a DiMarzio DP173 Twang King or just a fake?

That's not a Twang King. It looks like a stock Fender pickup from a non-MIA Telecaster. It has a plastic bobbin and standard insulation on the wires, and never had a baseplate to begin with.

A Twang King has a fiber bobbin and cloth insulation on the wire.

That bobbin by # is used on a lot of pups.

    It's a Fender Tex Mex

It's not even a Tex Mex.

That's the pickup my 69 RI came with. Very easy to improve. Add copper clad baseplate. I filed the screw bosses off. Still in my guitar.

Looks like it could be a tex mex to me. black and white wires. Did the 69 reissue have black and white wires or black and yellow? I bet black and yellow.

Blue and yellow wires generally on Mex vintage style pickups, 69 Thinline. Classic series, Hwy1 etc.

There are a ton more TELECASTER bridge pups out there WITHOUT a metal baseplate, then with.

That one is, without a doubt, a FENDER Telecaster bridge pickup.

Still like all Tele bridge pickups without a baseplate it sounds ...meh :)

Even if it is an American standard ,looks like most AS pickups I immediately replace when I get an AS in my hands, to me the eternal equation no baseplate=not really a Tele pickup still stands :)

I've seen this happen before -

Somebody swaps out pickups and puts the old one in the box the replacement pickup came in.

    The seller could just be ignorant, or . . . . . ;)
