    Hi all,
Working on this amp for a friend. Master volume pot broken off. Back of pot says "Alpha c5k ohm". In googling that, getting a lot of hits "anti-log".

    What does that mean? and
Is it the appropriate type of pot?
It does solder into a pc board.

I do have some electrical experience, a lot of mechanical experience, good at soldering. Any thing I should be aware of? Especially safety wise. Looks like an easy fix. Local shop quoted $160. Thank you, MikeB

Also known as reverse or inverse taper...It differs from linear and audio tapers. A47029C1-1DFC-4EAA-B410-56B55EF71C2C.jpeg

Safety wise, amplifiers can hold lethal voltages long after they’ve been turned off and unplugged. If you are not comfortable or don’t have a multi meter it’s best to leave them unplugged 24hrs before working inside the chassis.

if you have a multi meter and are comfortable you can test the voltages near the filter caps and learn how “drain filter capacitors” online.
