I do not know how I stumbled on this but I did. I was amazed at the answers. Two people were wearing sweatshirts from the university I work for and they answered wrong. I know my kids can answer these questions but I am not sure about the grandkids (now graduating and some in college.) We have our summer meeting for fun and family in Chicago in July. These questions will be asked.........lol. Oh and I had to think a few minutes on some, I didn't have them all ready to spit out either. But I knew them. Have at it and then talk to your kids.

The time for concern may be long past. (;^). Have you ever watched the movie “Idiocracy”.

    I like Jay's cars....

But there's something profoundly creepy about him and I doubt many people would perform well when he's asking the questions.

He's there to make idiots out of people, and get rich in the process. I'm not impressed. I think it remains to be seen, just how much or how little these people know about such things.

In hopes that another OP's version of the thread topic I started a month or so doesn't get shut down by letting ourselves get too politicized once again, I chime in again. This time w/ the fact of the dumbing down of the SAT, several times since 1995. As evidence:

    https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/05/how-hard-is-the-new-sat/482376/

Sometimes, the admirable easy-goingness of recent generations also is what their slackery looks like when we're looking hard for merit in it....

    That's not a movie, it's a real-time documentary.

You can thank Siri, Alexa, and other question answering algorithms on iPhones and Androids. You're looking at a video of a generation that grew up on what should have been a convenience but instead has become a crutch. An app relieves them of the necessity to learn and process information. Siri can ace the test but she can't think. These kids can't do either.

    "What animal is that?"
    "Kangaroo."
I was waiting for him to be corrected with a wrong answer.
Hint: Koala Bear is the wrong answer.

People are too quick to blame schools and teachers. It all starts at home. What you get out of school is exactly what you’re willing to put into it. If you don’t teach your child to be curious, seek knowledge, and love learning then they’re going to grow up to be dim bulbs like these kids no matter what.

A ha! Of course the internet helped me. Since Koalas are marsupials, they are not really bears!

Thus, it is a Koala. Period.

I blame television. Because television edited out all the people who knew the answers.

There is a chance that some subjects are not covered in classes these days. Maybe because more modern classes preparing current kids for the future are presented. But it doesn't hurt to have these conversations at the dinner table and share knowledge. There are some quirky facts about American history that might pique the interest of kids. At my place of employment we are asked to be mentors to the younger staff and we share age old stories of why things are. I believe most of them enjoy the pieces of info shared. We just have to get their attention and get them to listen. Still the video is disturbing to me about what is missed.
