I lost my best buddy today. 15 years a companion for my late wife and I. A special guy whom I will really miss. We picked him up as a puppy in Knoxville Tennessee. We had to wait to get him as they thought he might be show quality. Fortunately for us he had crooked front teeth. We decided to name him Mortimer Snerd Gibson. For those who know who Charlie McCarthy was, Mortimer was appropriate. He was our second Welsh Terrier and as different as the first and the female we got later. He liked people on his terms, us included. He ignored other dogs; including the one we got after him. He tolerated her at best. Not the loving couple we expected. His crowning achievement was after years of trying he actually caught a squirrel. The female helped him, but he would never admit it. We shared the last two years as constant companions; enjoying walks, eating stuff we both know mamma would not approve and just relaxing in our elder moments. So long Gibson, scratchies down the road.

Sorry for your loss. Our furry friends are the best. It creates a huge hole when we lose them.

from the gal who initially wrote it:
The text went like this:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, your pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and strength, those who were hurt are made better and strong again, like we remember them before they go to heaven.
They are happy and content except for one small thing—they each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are shining, his body shakes.
Suddenly he begins to run from the herd, rushing over the grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cuddle in a happy hug never to be apart again.
You and your pet are in tears.
Your hands again cuddle his head and you look again into his trusting eyes, so long gone from life, but never absent from your heart, and then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

“It just came through my head, it was like I was talking to my dog—I was talking to Major,” she says.
“I just felt all of this and I had to write it.”

I have nothing better - we share your grief and hope you welcome another faithful doggo when you're ready.
Peace - Deeve

Several years back I had a kitty who was my buddy. His name was Smokey.
Smokey contracted kidney disease and left us way too soon.
That left an aching cat-size hole in my heart.

Then a year ago my wife's sister's cat had a litter of kittens and one was a little gray guy.
I named him Dusty after the late great ZZ Top bassist.
He is my besty.

My wish for you is to find a new pup that will fill the Gibson-size hole in your heart.
God be with you Brother.

I am very sorry for your loss. Losing good pups is always hard. They give us such unconditional love and so much else. And they occupy a place in our hearts so quickly.
Hope time heals the hole in your heart.

My condolences on you loss. Gibson looks like, am I’m sure, a wonderful dog and a great companion.

They leave a huge hole in your heart and soul. When the time comes I hope you find another that will help fill that hole. There will never be a replacement for Gibson but, hopefully your next best friend

RIP Gibson
