It's been 14 days, the longest stretch in ten years, and after many failed attempts, I've finally stopped drinking. I want to thank you guys for all of your threads, sharing your stories, and your well-wishes to others on this journey. I was a spectator before. Now I am a participant.

It's all played a part in helping me reach the tipping point where I could successfully abstain from having that "one" drink. I feel much better physically and mentally, and in a better position to make good decisions. I can now work my way down my list of things I have been meaning to do: go to bed early, waste less time on the internet, and to get back into shape. For the latter, I re-introduced my keto diet and started taking long walks every day.

Anyway, thank you fellow TDPRI-ers. This is a welcoming place. I wish health and happiness to you all.

Good luck on your journey, brother- and remember, it's a journey. All journeys have dead ends and sidetracks, but the most important thing is to keep moving.

Took my last drink in August of 2014. I was pretty bad at that point. My point being - if I can do it, I KNOW - absolutely KNOW, you can too. Excercise, drink lots of water, rest - you'll be amazed at how well those simple things inform a much better quality of life.

Oh yeah, and play play play

Excellent job! Please be mindful of the urges that can pop up down the road. They can come back when you least expect it. Stay strong!

    Congrats!

I’d starting this journey too. I’m only on day six but I feel committed this time. I have taken a month off here and there, but it’s been about 10 years of overindulgence for me as well. I felt like dog s*** until yesterday. Just starting to come out of it now. I’ve been running 30 minutes to an hour on the elliptical machine since Tuesday and that is helping.

Quarantine made it tough to not just start drinking at 5 every day and at 2 on the weekends. My wife had been working nights but is laid off now. So previously I had sole responsibility for the kids until 10:00 at least 3 days a week (and didn’t have a drink if I was supervising the kids alone), but since mid March I haven’t had that constraint and I took it too far. I suspect many others are in the same position.

Anyway, I don’t know if I’m the meeting type but I do know there’s a supportive recovery community on here. Looking forward to connecting with y’all on this journey.

    October 12 2014 or 10/12/14.

The first five years are the worst ... but just take all the booze money, stick in a jar and reward yourself with a brand new top end guitar with the savings.

If you need reinforcement try driving an Uber late at night ferrying drunks between bars or from bars to home. BTDT.

I have been a "careful", occasional drinker for many years, after being sort of a problem during college and during my divorce a few years after. Since last September, though, I've had no alcohol at all, as I try to support a family member who struggles. My best to everyone who needs to stop, and is trying to do so.
