Hello folks, found this weird wooden thing. Hollow bass from 50s, 60s ..?
Handmade probably? Crappy or decent who knows :D
Any recognizable clue or part welcomed, never seen those pickups again.

    What do you think guys?

Don't know, my brother found it locally and sent to me, he cannot even test it.

That Pickup is a DiMarzio Model G which firmly places the origine of the instrument in Late seventies/early eighties.

As for the rest of the instrument, I guess whoever built it found a top of an archtop guitar and just went from there. Since that top is the only thing on the instrument that doesn't look like its home made.

Vibe-wise it reminds me of one of those Takamine acoustic basses.

The thing does look mandmade. The bridge is also handmade.

Somebody put a LOT of work into that.

The pickup appears to be a Dimarzio Super II PAF humbucker. Looky here:

It looks pretty cool to me. I’d love to give it a whirl.

Something about that bridge that looks Russian. Any chance it's a Soviet guitar?

Yeah a lot of work went into that! If the weird neck joint is solid, a little elbow grease might make that a gem. Kinda cool looking, so the electronics work? Looks like a lot of switches, may be a cool tone in there. Interested to hear your thoughts...

It’s not a solid body is it? Interesting wood on the back? I’m intrigued...

My only concern comes for that look like cracked / damaged neck joint or anything. Seems pretty bad there. :(
