Peter Bogdanovich played the shrink for a shrink. The other being Dr. Melfi, Tony Soprano's shrink. He died at 82.

He was certainly better known for directing and producing in his earlier years. But he did not have big film success later in life and The Sopranos was probably the gig with the most exposure later in his career.

Coincidentally, the first episode of The Sopranos aired on January 10, 1999, almost 23 years ago to the day.

A lot of cast members have died over the years.

Frank Pellegrino ran the place and got the part as the FBI boss in the show.

As the opening post stated, he was certainly known for bigger things earlier in his career. But he hit a plateau and stalled and was less known to younger audiences for films he directed than being in a highly watched cable show.

I had seen his movies but did not know who he was when he turned up in The Sopranos. People in the general public are less likely to know someone for directing and producing than for acting.

Aside from his narrative movies, Peter directed one of the best band/songwriter documentaries of all time, "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers:Runnin' Down a Dream" in 2007. If you haven't seen it and like TPP&theHB, watch it.

It may be that a lot of folks didn't know of him outside of the Sopranos.

Agreed. That role was tiny compared to his significant achievements.

I missed the Sopranos when it was fresh.
I saw it for the first time about 10 years ago.
My friend Kelly gifted me with the boxed set.
I was instantly hooked.
Great show!
The characters were relatable one moment, monsters the next.
Just like us!
Anyways, RIP and thanks, to Peter, all the brilliant actors who have passed from the show.
