Very correct. Its code for "you aren't addressing what is important." Its dismissive.
Here's some more:
"We are better than this." Code for you are inferior, and I'm beating you to the blame punch.
"We need to do the right thing." Code for I'm more virtuous than you, and I'm beating you to the blame punch.
"We need a conversation...". Code for moving discussion to a more controlled environment with reinforcements, so someone can force their opinion on you.
Any of these raise flags for me, challenging the motivation of the speaker.
Anytime someone starts a sentence with "we..." and the real meaning is "you...", you're in trouble.
I think I posted this on the last cliche thread. Oh well. It’s timeless.
I know it's just a word, and not a cliche. I am just sick of hearing it.
This thread is so cliché...
"Practicing social distancing" I want to cringe everytime I hear this.
"If you had <xxx> on your 2020 Bingo card."
There's no guarantee that 2021 will be any better...
Yep, another annoying cliche.
Adding "gate" to any kind of event or scandal. Pre-dates 2020, but still used and should be retired.
I would wager that many of the practitioners don't even understand the context.
I feel like certain forces have tested the system in 2020, pleasantly surprised at the weakness and vulnerability, staging for an even more dramatic 2021. I'm still unsure how we are running a higher GDP, with airlines, entertainment, food industry, and other whole major sectors are at all time lows for sales and revenue. Somebody's tinkering with the data, and that's not good for 2021.
Answering a question, but prefacing answer with: "Yeah, I mean..."
"Deep dive". Makes me want to hurl.
Oh, and "rattle can"...
Literally. Almost always misused.
“I literally puked my guts out.” No you didn’t. You’d be dead.
“I literally picked up the dog turd and tossed it in a bag and threw it in the dumpster.” Just how does one figuratively pick up a dog turd and throw it in the garbage?
Oh man, Corporatespeak is chock-full of these and they all drive me up a wall.
Synergise, content is king, empower, get the ball rolling, game changer, apples to apples, it's on my radar, with all due respect, no brainer, run it up the ladder. Human beings referred to as "resources." Get out of my face with this BS.
There is no value-add to it and I don't have the bandwidth to put up with it, so just go ahead and take that carpola offline, mmmkay? Employ some out-of-the-box thinking, there are much better ways to cascade the relevant information.
And don't, under any circumstances, ask for a "bio-break" during a meeting. You may as well be shouting, "I really need to piss!" Just ask for a quick break, mmmkay?
"We're all on the same page here."
Are we really?
"Amid" the pandemic
"Amid" the election
Also, a "super spreader event"
