We all like bad movies. We all enjoy bad music. We know that they are bad, which makes us enjoy them even more.

So I thought to myself-is there any equipment I've owned which meets this criteria?

I bought a Pignose G40(?) tube amp. It wasn't one of these jack of all trade amps, it was as bare bones and "pure" as a tube amp could be. It didn't even look cool like their other stuff. Nor did it sound good. But it was completely unabashful, which I admired. It was fun to play, even if I didn't like what I was hearing.

Do you own anything that you love, despite it being absolutely terrible?

A friend gifted me a Fender Rumble 15 amp. I believe it’s at least 20 years old. Anyway I like it better than the 750 dollar supro 64 I just returned.

My Rumble 15 cost $30 off Kijiji about 10 years ago. Terrible sounding guitar amp past 3-1/2 or so, lives under the Wurlitzer, gets hauled out for Champ-volume jam sessions.

    Quite a bargain, in retrospect.

I think "terrible sounds" are a valid tool in a music maker's arsenal. Think of early punk and thrash metal. I don't WANT that stuff to sound like it's being played on boutique cork sniffer gear.

i don't know. I read the sex pistols stole their gear, as well as exodus.

edit and they had to steal food because they didn't see any money of their advances.
edit 2 of course, marketing and credibility come into account.

Oh. Haha. I'd never heard that. That's even better than playing with crappy gear.

on the other hand, when the guitarist for the hugh beaumont experience decided that he wanted to play guitar, dad ponied up and bought a 100w marshall stack and a peavey t-60. those 3 power chords at least spoke with some oomph

That little Gorilla was my first amp. It did everything from (semi) clean to almost high-gain. Sounded great for the punk band I was in.

The Vox AC4TV.... I sold mine because it was terrible. Great for recording, though. I should have kept it for that. It sounded better on recording than it did in the room.

Sorry, but Gorillas are so bad that they’re just bad. Not in an ironic way, in a harpoon through the spleen kinda way.

I have that same amp and it is not that bad!

But I have also modified mine a bit. I opened the back panel so I had a spot to store the electrical cord. What I found was that small little under powered speaker actually sounded much better with the back open. I also don't use the distortion button as it turns the amp to mush.

If you have a 4x10 cabinet, do yourself a favor and plug the extension into that cabinet. WOW!!!
